The Opportunity

The Executive leads strategy development in support of Senior Executive Management decision making and is responsible for strategic and operational planning, design and change management. This leader creates shared alignment around a vision, clarifies the organization’s strategy, and ensures the strategic and operational plans and associated work connects to corporate goals.

This executive will lead the Risk Strategy, Planning and Transformation functions for Enterprise Risk & Compliance (ERC). The position drives the transformation program for ERC and is responsible for end-to-end execution of transformation initiatives from ideation, business case development and socialization, program management, communications and change management to realize target business objectives and economic benefits. Additional responsibilities include driving the strategic and operational planning process and budgeting for Risk and Compliance, and providing leadership, operational direction and oversight for various programs and projects. This individual will partner closely with both ERC business leaders and with enterprise functions including CFO and HR to drive shared success and achieve enterprise strategic goals.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX; Plano, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Colorado Springs, CO; Charlotte, NC; Chesapeake, VA or Tampa, FL.

What you’ll do:

  • Engages with USAA Senior Executive Management to influence and develop long term strategies and plans and define strategic objectives.

  • Effectively communicates and implements business strategy so that all stakeholders understand the business’ strategic plan and how it aligns with the company's overall goals.

  • Leads a team that is responsible for executing the strategic plan that will result in both the short and long-term growth of the business

  • Establishes and reviews key strategic priorities and translates them into a comprehensive, actionable, strategic plan. Monitors execution of the strategic plan for opportunities and develops inclusive planning processes.

  • Partners with the functional area leader to ensure departmental alignment and facilitate problem-solving and provide consultation and decision-making support on a variety of concerns.

  • Oversees programs and projects, board deliverables, and prioritizes critical work tasks for the functional area considering best use of resources and initiatives.

  • Liaises with human resources and finance in the planning and management of financial and staffing resources needed to support the organization.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 10 years of progressive related experience developing strategies, managing major initiatives and delivering results within a complex matrix environment required.

  • 4 years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high performing teams required.

  • Experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders with demonstrated ability to influence broad organizational decisions and to manage work to achieve strategic goals.

  • Executive-level business acumen in the areas of strategy, business operations, industry best practices and emerging trends.

  • Experience developing, tracking, and communicating appropriate level of metrics and reporting to support organizational initiatives.

What sets you apart:

  • 10+ years experience in risk strategy, financial planning or transformation at a large Financial Services institution, or at a top-tier management consulting firm working with Financial Services clients

  • Strong understanding of operational and compliance risk, and/or prior experience in a Business Risk & Controls function or in a second line risk function

  • Analytical mindset with ability to build business cases and leverage economic frameworks to drive business decisions

  • Self-starter with ability to effectively manage competing priorities and handle large volume of work in a dynamic environment

  • Outstanding leadership, communication and influencing skills, with proficiency in writing concise analysis, commentary and/or narratives for executive or Board consumption

What we offer:

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is: $ 169,880.00- 305,780.00.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

Long Term Incentive Plan: Cash payment for Executive level roles only, representing a cash payment which is both time and performance based.
