Responsibilities

Provides professional engineering and architectural oversight, construction industry procurement, and overall real property stewardship within Mayo Clinic. Demonstrates and applies familiarity with state and regulatory guidelines and codes in completion of job responsibilities. Meets with local and state building officials, local and state fire marshals, state department of health, and regulatory institutions such as The Joint Commission. Looked upon as the Owner’s real property steward, and oversees Mayo Clinic’s buildings, development, and sustainment. Assists in master planning activities, with facility evaluations, equipment planning and procurement. Implements institutional directions as the Owner’s contracting officer, using advanced negotiation skills and various contracting options. The position is responsible for leading project objectives that have medium risk to the organization and accomplishing their completion on time, within budget, and according to the approved project scope. Leads problem-solving and decision making activities, provides direction in the development and tracking of project budgets and schedules. Establishes implementation plans and budgets. Provides matrix supervision of staff from internal Mayo departments, external consultants, and contractor/vendor resources. Uses extensive organization and planning skills to manage and organize a large and diverse work load with a wide variety of tasks. Utilizes decision-making, judgment, attention to detail, and follow through to accomplish work responsibilities. Uses presentation skills to address both large and small groups, including committees. Collaborates with all departments within Mayo Clinic, working with a wide range of personalities. May serve on committees with administrative assignments. Achieves the cost, schedule and quality objectives of projects assigned by Senior Leadership and Director. Advises senior leadership and administrative staff of project progress, and works proactively with internal and external groups to successfully manage all phases of the process which includes initiation, programming, approvals, design, construction, and occupancy. Ensures that user group needs are addressed during design phase and apprises users of project progress during design and construction phases. Capable of timely decision making and building unique teams comprised of internal groups and outside resources. Manages assigned multiple Facilities projects simultaneously, from work orders to projects approximately $10,000,000 for all project phases. The responsibilities of this position may require the individual to provide off-hours general oversight of assigned projects or crisis management sometimes associated with project or construction activity. The incumbent may drive a Mayo Clinic vehicle on a regular or occasional basis. Remains current in the project and construction management industry, regarding processes, technology, and project delivery methods.

Qualifications

A minimum of a four-year college degree (Bachelor’s degree) in project or construction management, engineering, architecture or related field, and a minimum of 10 years’ post-academic experience managing design and construction phases for projects; Or, an Associate's degree in project or construction management, engineering, architecture or related field and a minimum of 12 years' post academic experience managing design and construction phases for projects; OR, a High School diploma/GED and a minimum of 14 years' experience managing design and construction phases for projects.

Demonstrated estimating experience and a thorough understanding of various project delivery systems required. Ability to administer contracts and construction documents required. Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to balance the workload of various projects simultaneously. Demonstrated communication/interpersonal skills, ability to compose correspondence and memoranda and knowledge of word processing, spread sheet and scheduling computer programs required. Demonstrated project management skills and initiative. Professional licensure in the degreed field is preferred.

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.

Valid Arizona driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle driving record.
