Entity: Clinical Practices of the University of Pennsylvania (CPUP)

Department : Ophthalmology

Location : Penn Presbyterian Medical Center- 51 N 39th St

Hours : Fulltime, per department needs

Summary:

The Ophthalmic Technician Supervisor provides resource management for the Department of Ophthalmology at Scheie Eye Institute at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC). Responsibilities include but are not limited to: managing technician schedules in response to the operational needs of the department, monitoring patient flow and collaborating between work groups. In addition, the supervisor is responsible for staffing provider clinics at least 3 days per week, working with the management team on employee training and instruction, coaching and development, troubleshooting, problem solving and performance management. Performance management includes conducting annual performance evaluations and staff meetings.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages technician schedules in order to provide adequate staff support to provider schedules.

  • Trains technicians in the use of specific equipment and/or processes.

  • Provides opportunities for learning to achieve staff personal development objectives.

  • Assure that staff appropriately handle PHI.

  • Sets patient focused performance expectations by creating performance plans with clear goals and measures.

  • Review the performance of the personnel and completes annual performance evaluations.

  • Ensures compliance of direct report HR files.

  • Conducts regular staff meetings as appropriate.

  • Works with the Administrator of Practice Operations, Quality & Safety Manager and/or leadership to ensure all regulatory requirements are met.

  • Works in collaboration with the leadership team in the department.

  • Maintains high level of integrity and confidentiality.

  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, polices, and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system.

Credentials:

  • Certified Ophthalmic Tech (COT) required within 12 months of hire

  • Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) preferred

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required) with 5+ years Ophthalmology experience and 3+ years Lead/supervisory experience

  • OR Associate's Degree (preferred) with 3+ years Ophthalmology experience and 1+ years Lead/supervisory experience

Skills and Abilities:

  • Effectively engages in the process of teamwork, cooperation, coordination and collaboration.

  • Ability to effectively and safely utilize all equipment.

  • Ability to follow all required protocols.

  • Maintain all life safety competencies.

  • Ability to multi-task.

  • Ability to respond to emergency situations.

  • Experience in a healthcare environment.

  • Knowledge of safety and emergency procedures.
