JOB TITLE: SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educator 

Vetri Community Partnership is seeking an engaging nutrition educator who will teach hands on cooking activities, support wellness initiatives, and represent the organization at assigned school and public events.

SNAP Ed Nutrition Educators primarily teach students and caregivers in K through 8 public and charter schools and adults at food retail sites throughout Philadelphia. They implement programming in alignment with approved Pennsylvania Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (PA SNAP Ed) activities. In addition to teaching, nutrition educators collaborate with liaisons at assigned sites to encourage sustainable, positive health behaviors through Policy, Systems, and Environmental Change (PSE) approaches. SNAP Ed educators work across other services as assigned or when scheduling permits. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and assist with nutrition education classes and live cooking demonstrations; Deliver approved curriculum and lesson plans in alignment with Pennsylvania SNAP Ed guidelines and current statements of work
  • Develop strong working relationships with staff at assigned sites to plan classes and other wellness activities, including facilitating and supporting school wellness team initiatives
  • Perform timely collection of qualitative and quantitative program data
  • Recruit adult participants for cooking classes and schedule programs to be convenient for participants
  • Cultivate respectful, engaging learning environments
  • Prepare and lead cooking sessions or demonstrations for non SNAP Ed programming as directed. SNAP Ed Nutrition Educators spend about 20 hours per year delivering non SNAP Ed programming
  • Maintain and organize teaching equipment and facilities. Complete regular care of cooking equipment stored at the VCP office and at all assigned sites.
  • Stay current in SNAP Ed topics, DEI & B, and best practices in nutrition education

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS 

  • Minimum one-year teaching, counseling, or coaching experience with school aged children OR working/volunteering with a non profit, public health, or nutrition related organization
  • Professional studies or college-level coursework in health, nutrition across the life cycle, food resource management, community food access, community food systems, basic cooking skills, urban agriculture, public health, or food safety is a plus
  • Experience with community organizing and coalition building is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work both as a team and independently.
  • Excellent record keeping and data collection skills are required
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint
  • Valid driver's license is mandatory and reliable transportation required
  • Can occasionally work evenings and on weekends, when assigned

  • Must be able to lift approximately 40lbs. and stand or walk for extended periods of time
  • Successful completion of PA Cri inal Background Check, Child Abuse History Check, and FBI Fingerprinting record
