A Brief Overview This Research Technician Iwill work in the laboratory of Roizen, M.D., Ph.D. in the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The position involves working alongside a physician scientist investigating non-calcium effects of vitamin D with significant translational implications. Our research focuses on using mouse and cell models to study muscle and mitochondrial effects of vitamin D, including use of muscle stem cells and neurons in culture. We are part of the Research Institute at CHOP, which fosters a multidisciplinary approach among researchers and scientists working to discover new gene and cell therapies in search of cures for debilitating and life-threatening disorders.

The technician will be trained in mouse care, cell culture and differentiation, flow cytometry, molecular cloning, including CRISPR/Cas9, and other advanced cellular and molecular biology techniques as needed. Prior experience in any of these specialties is a plus. Specific duties will also include the maintenance of a mouse colony, maintenance of cell culture, and maintaining appropriate laboratory notebooks, records, and protocols.

What you will do Performs routine tests / experiments under the direction of principal investigator, supervisor or other designee. Performs research procedures on experimental samples as directed Records and checks experiments/results for completeness and accuracy Performs calculations and maintains appropriate log and lab notebooks Performs tasks that may require minimal familiarity with fundamental techniques and lab equipment Assists in care of lab equipment Sterilizes and cleans glassware, and disposes of specimens, media and other materials using appropriate procedures Attends courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques Records results, organizes data and maintains lab notebook (physical or electronic) in an organized manner. Conducts literary searches as directed.

Education Qualifications High School Diploma / GED Required Associate's Degree Preferred Bachelor's Degree Preferred

Experience Qualifications Related classroom or laboratory experience or successful completion of a technical training program (eg. Wistar, WPSI) Required At least six (6) months Related classroom or laboratory experience or successful completion of a technical training program (eg. Wistar, WPSI) Preferred
