Confidential Employer Reading Specialist in PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania

Job Description:

OVERVIEW OF POSITION: The reading specialist supports, supplements and extends classroom teaching, and works collaboratively to implement a quality reading program that is research-based and meets the needs of students. They work with students in small groups and in classroom settings from elementary through the secondary level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in Reading with Certification
  • 2 years classroom experience
  • Current PA teaching certification.
  • Current PA background clearances

ABILITY TO:

  • Conduct diagnostic assessments to determine the reading abilities of all students
  • Plan and implement CAP's remedial reading program
  • Interpret student needs and progress in reading
  • Conduct in-service workshops and demonstrations pertinent to methods and materials appropriate to various levels of reading instruction
  • Confer with parents concerning individual students having special reading problems or requiring special remedial help
  • Interpret, as appropriate, test results and statistical data concerning reading
  • Devise and maintain such records and reports as are necessary to the successful execution of the job
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional, yet cooperative, relationships with all levels of management, employees and outside venders
  • Display stellar communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have ability to work well, both independently, and within group settings
  • Understand and support the Mission and Values of the organization
  • Ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Administering and interpreting various reading assessments
  • Current literacy best practices
  • PA ELA/English curriculum

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess students using DIBELS, DRA and QRI
  • Analyze student data to prepare individualized and differentiated small group literacy interventions
  • Organize and facilitate annual Literacy Night
  • Create several staff development/PD sessions on best practices in literacy
  • Instruct students in Tier I, II or III in small groups, one to one, and/or whole classes at a school for at-risk K-12 students.
  • Reinforce reading skills that were identified as deficient by test data
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and Special Education teachers to make sure the needs of all students are being met
  • Create lesson plans for individual students, small groups and/or classrooms of K-12th based on student needs
