Summary:

• Evaluate and monitors POCT systems to ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practice. Maintains inventory of instruments and performs troubleshooting and semi-annual validations. Aids in the evaluation of new instrumentation and implementations. Coordinates training and competency for all staff performing POCT. Coordinates testing for unknown and proficiency samples. Assists Manager with computer network issues affect POCT instrumentation. Monitors all staff performing POCT for compliance and proper testing technique. Compiles monthly QC and reports compliance, significant QC statistics, issues and solutions, and other matters that arise pertaining to POCT to the POCT Manager and Director. • You will receive a sign-on bonus totaling the amount of $7,500 over a period of two years of employment. You will receive the first installment of $2,500 after successful completion of your 180-day introductory period. You will receive the second installment of $2,500 at one-year of employment. You will receive the final installment of $2,500 at two years of employment. Please note that each of the payments will be subject to payroll taxes and withholdings.

Responsibilities:

• Performs procedures using appropriate equipment and instruments available in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures; Exercises good judgment in result interpretation and problem solving; Recognizes and troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment or procedures; Performs maintenance and repair on instruments as required.

• Performs and records quality control for instruments and equipment; Initiates troubleshooting and corrective action; Notifies the manager of quality control results that are outside of established laboratory ranges and documents what corrective actions were taken; Identifies statistical trends and devises action plans to bring testing into acceptable performance ranges.

• Learns new procedures within reasonable time frame. Performs several tasks simultaneously during peak workload situations; Completes tasks within allotted time; Effectively assists co-workers in the absence of specific instruction or during lag time to accomplish departmental or section goals; Seeks additional assignments/responsibilities as needed; Successfully adjusts approach or work schedule when necessary to adapt to changing work demands, situations, responsibilities and people.

• Presents in-services for personnel performing POC tests; Assists with instruction of procedures and techniques to students, technologists and new employees.

• Ensures that all areas performing POC tests are meeting initial, six-month and annual competencies, as well as maintaining complete competency records; Meets with sections that are non-compliant in competency testing or QC documentation.

• Maintains a productive, cooperative working relationship with all members of the laboratory; Communicates efficiently with staff performing POCT, supervisors and co-workers; Maintains a positive rapport with medical staff and hospital personnel; answers inquiries regarding test results, methodologies, test specificity and sensitivity.

• Demonstrates initiative in continually improving departmental functioning, as well as personal knowledge, skills and work experience. Completes mandatory in-services on or before the due date.

• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies and procedures.

• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity and health system organization.

Credentials:

• MLS Certification by a minimum knowledge-based exam such as the Board of Certification (ASCP), equivalent or eligible to take such an exam.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

• Bachelor of Arts or Science in MLS or other biological or chemical science or U.S. equivalent (substantiated by foreign credential evaluation statement)

• And 3+ years' Experience with moderate, high complexity laboratory testing experience

• Qualify as general supervisor and/or technical consultants under CLIA-88
