Acadia Healthcare Occupational Therapist - STAR Program in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The Specialized Treatment for Autism and Related disorders (STAR) Occupational Therapist is a member of the professional services team on the STAR program. The OT’s key function is to support each child’s increased adaptive functioning while on the unit and encourage skill transfer to families prior to the child’s discharge.

We are currently seeking an Occupational Therapist for our Specialized Treatment for Autism and Related disorders (STAR) Program.

The Occupational Therapist position will:

  • Treat patients who are recovering from injury, illness or disabled patients through the therapeutic use of everyday activities.

  • Provide functional assessment when appropriate. Assessment will focus on areas of adaptive functioning, and ways the program can support improvement in functioning through group or individual services.

  • Communicate with the treatment team through participation in treatment team meeting daily.

  • Conduct a daily group for the unit around topics supporting adaptive functioning, including but not limited to: self-care and ADLs, sensory integration, proxemics, social skills, etc.

  • Engage in individual treatment with patients on an as-needed basis, per recommendations by the treatment team.

  • Attend family meetings for each patient in order to promote communication with families and collateral supports, and to promote skill transfer into the home environment.

  • Support for OT consultation, therapy, and assessment for pediatric patients placed in units outside of the STAR program.

  • Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's degree in Occupational Therapy conferred by an accredited program required.

  • Two or more years’ experience working with children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders with a demonstrated understanding of the principals of behavioral management preferred.

  • Pediatric and ASD experience and expertise preferred.

  • Experience in working with children and families required.

LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed as an OTR/L by the State of Pennsylvania required.

  • Evidence of ongoing continuing education in management of Autism Spectrum Disorders preferred

  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
