Position Description

THE DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING AND APPLIED MECHANICS at the UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA invites applications for a one-year-long full-time position at the rank of Lecturer. The position is renewable depending on future teaching needs, availability of funds, and performance. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, as well as a strong commitment to outstanding teaching and advising of students at the undergraduate and Master’s level. We particularly seek candidates with teaching, research, and/or practical experience that can be applied to instruction in mechanical design, mechatronics, robotics, experimentation, and instructional laboratory courses.

The anticipated teaching load will be four courses per year. The Lecturer’s main responsibility will be high quality student-centered teaching, including course preparation, delivery, and assessment. The Lecturer will also participate in the academic advising of students, and will be given the opportunity to participate in departmental, university, and external service to foster their professional development.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics offers a high quality, rigorous, practice-integrated undergraduate academic program that ranks in the top 20 undergraduate Mechanical Engineering programs in the U.S. Students are of exceptionally high caliber with diverse backgrounds, and are highly successful in subsequent careers in industry, entrepreneurship, government, and academia.
