Confidential Employer High School Substitute Teacher in PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania

Job Description:

Job Overview: Provide classroom coverage as assigned when the regular teachers are absent. The permanent building substitute must be confident teaching a wide range of grades and content areas. Upon arrival at school, you will check in with the Department Head for the daily assignment schedule. On days when no teachers are absent, the building substitute will be provided a schedule of assigned tasks by the Department Head.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Implement emergency plans or scheduled lessons in accordance with classroom teacher's instructions
  • Ability to teach day to day assignments or longer-term positions such as maternity leave or long-term illness.
  • Keep accurate attendance and notes for the day
  • Use initiative to solve problems when they arise and willing to make decisions based on the best interest of students.
  • Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment for all students.
  • Completes a Substitute Teacher Report Form for the regular classroom teacher
  • Collects and places students' work in regular teacher's desk/folders/bins/mailbox
  • Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place
  • Ability to communicate well with students and their families.
  • Willingness to help supervise extracurricular activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s).

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree in Education or relevant subject.
  • Current PA teaching certification is a plus.
  • Current PA background clearances are required.
  • Candidate must be part of a close professional community and able to contribute in positive ways to the culture of the school
  • Flexible and willing to adapt to change at short notice.
  • Computer and technologically literate, in particular using Mac computers and SmartBoards
  • Organization and communication skills
  • Physical Requirements: must be able to maneuver in classroom environments and classroom spaces, filing, faxing, scanning, copying, mailing, making phone calls, sitting for up to two (2) hours looking at a computer monitor, using keyboards, and typing.
