Job Title:              Flight Mechanics Engineer III

  1. *Summary of Position:  *

This engineer will take a primary role in rotorcraft flight simulation and test activities in the US.   Activities include the development and validation of new rotorcraft models and simulation methodologies, leading the analysis of aircraft aeromechanics and performance using appropriate tools, and ensuring aircraft safety of flight for flight test activities.   

As a member of the larger LHD Aircraft System Integration organization, the engineer will work closely with colleagues in multiple disciplines and/or geographies to achieve successful outcomes.

Specific to AW609, this engineer will support aircraft handling qualities FAA certification activities including test plan execution and reporting.

* 2.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  *

*1: *Applies appropriate practices and principles to ensure accuracy of simulation and analytical models for design and certification.     Develop analytical tools to efficiently achieve program technical objectives.

2: Perform analytical studies (often concurrently and across multiple platforms/projects) to ensure Flight Mechanics tasks are completed to a high quality.  Communicate with the appropriate team leaders and engineers across LHD Engineering disciplines in the US, Italy and UK as required to achieve company objectives.

3: Participate in aircraft handling qualities and performance FAA certification test activities to successful completion.  Work with AW609 flight test department, DERs, pilots, and other engineers to execute certification plans.  Be aware of and adhere to company/industry procedures and best practices to ensure aircraft safety during tests.

4: Develop and agree requirements, design inputs and test cases with the FCS team for control law design solutions associated with aircraft handling qualities and envelope protection functions.  Provide input to on-going development of the aircraft flight control system including requirement verification and validation to ensure optimal design for business, customer, and certification objectives.

5: Contribute to the development of new and innovative aircraft concepts and technologies that allow the company to compete in the future rotorcraft market including the areas of Urban Air Mobility and US/NATO Future Vertical Lift.

6: Mentor junior engineers on a range of subjects including analytical methods, handling qualities, performance and analysis of flight test data.

* Qualifications for Position: *

*         A. Education*; BS Engineering

*          B. Experience*

  • 5 or more years as a handling qualities, aeromechanic or flight dynamics engineer.
  • Experience performing simulation, design, and testing of rotorcraft and/or fly-by-wire flight control laws preferred.

*        C. Competencies & Attributes*

  • Strong understanding in one or more of the following areas: modelling of rotorcraft flight physics, mission analysis, real-time simulation, control theory and control law design, handling qualities testing, and/or tiltrotor technology.
  • Strong analytical skills. Proven experience to create plans, communicate them, and execute them efficiently across a diverse and complex organization.
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills to effectively communicate to all levels of the organization. Ability to negotiate win-win solutions in the presence of conflict and ambiguity, and the ability to be a persuasive advocate to internal and external customers.
  • High integrity and technical expertise
  • Fluency with Flightlab software package preferred.
  • Practical experience with FAA certification processes preferred.
