Job Title: Senior Associate NVH Engineer

Salary: £38,832 per annum + Dependent Upon Experience

Location: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Summary

As an NVH engineer, job assignments are planned to provide experience and familiarisation with the technical staff, methods, practices, and programs of the company in Noise Vibration and Harshness (NVH). A successful candidate will work on engine NVH projects, typically short in duration for individual tests and projects. Development and learning opportunities will be provided to gather relevant information, compare and contrast data, identify relationships, and predict and manage failures.

What You Will Do

  • Work with customers to determine test requirements

  • Set up noise and vibration instrumentation for data acquisition

  • Perform test work in the lab, engine test cell or on the final machine installation.

  • Manage a range of current test requests

  • Post process the data

  • Report back on test status and completion.

What You Have

Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum and excellent analytical skills.

  • Uses a structured approach in analyzing and resolving technical problems.

  • Seeks opportunities for continual learning to maintain technical competence in pursuit of technical excellence.

  • Provides examples or case studies demonstrating technical excellence in actual business scenarios

  • Pursues, prepares for and assumes new technical assignments and challenges.

  • Digital signal processing experience

  • Good understanding of structural dynamics

  • Knowledge of siemens test lab or other high speed data acquisitions

  • Practical work experience of industrial diesel engines

  • Practical work experience of strain gauge testing and shaker test

  • Creating technical reports and communicating to Stakeholders

  • Interpreting technical data and forming conclusions

Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.

  • Documents common hardware, software and communications problems and likely resolutions.

  • Troubleshoots typical technical problems in a specific area.

  • Works with vendor-specific diagnostic guides, tools and utilities to discover application problems.

  • Adheres to standard troubleshooting procedures to ensure effectiveness of resolutions.

  • Participates in setting evaluation standards and criterion for troubleshooting.
