St. Joseph Health Surgical Technician I in Petaluma, California

We are looking for an experienced Surgical Tech (NUHW - National Union of Healthcare Workers) with at least 1 year current experience in a hospital surgical setting at Petaluma Valley Hospital!

Location : Petaluma, CA

Schedule : Per Diem

Shift: 8-hour, Variable shift

Summary:

Performs scrub technologist duties for patients of all ages undergoing surgical interventions in the following specialties: general, genitourinary, kidney transplant, gynecologic, vascular, trauma, orthopedics, neuro, ENT, eye, plastic and open heart (if applicable).

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates competency in aseptic technique throughout the surgical intervention.

  • Acquires and maintains technical skills required to function competently in all specialties as demonstrated by annual competency.

  • Anticipates surgeon and patient needs.

  • Demonstrates ability to appropriately use equipment necessary for patient care within scope of practice.

  • Safely identifies, dilutes and labels medications on surgical field under supervision of RN.

  • Demonstrates responsibility for containment of hospital costs and conservation of supplies; identifies potential cost savings.

  • Establishes and maintains a safe, clean and organized physical environment. Responds to the needs of patients, visitors, physicians, staff and volunteers in a proactive manner to create a welcoming, service oriented environment.

  • Reports patient/visitor/surgeon concerns, complaints and information to manager.

  • Demonstrates accountability for apprising self of hospital and department communication/ information.

  • Demonstrates commitment to department objectives and standards.

  • Other specific competencies that have been identified by the manager related to changes in departmental operations that focus on current clinical practices and are listed on the Supplemental Competency.

  • Accepts responsibility for problem solving and able to implement solution at the point of service.

  • Assists in orienting new employees to the unit.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Preferred Position Qualifications

  • Certification as surgical technologist

  • Able to communicate effectively – written and oral.

  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and procedures.

  • Basic knowledge of computers.

  • Effective skill in communication, problem solving, interpersonal relationships and prioritization.

  • Able to give and receive constructive feedback

Minimum Qualifications:

License / Certification: CPR certification required.

Experience: Minimum of one year recent experience in surgical setting (unless newly graduated)
