We are looking for a Nutrition Service Aide I - NUHW (National Union Health Workers) for the Nutrition Services department at St Joseph Health!
Location: Petaluma Valley Hospital - Petaluma, CA
Schedule: *Per Diem - 32 hours biweekly
Shift: 8-hour, Day - Variable
*Per Diem positions fill in on an as-needed basis to cover vacations, sick time, high patient census, and leaves of absence. There is no guarantee of hours. In lieu of benefits, a 15% per hour differential is added to base pay rate.
Prepares food items for patient trays, cafeteria service or catering events. Cleans and sanitizes dishware, pots, and work areas. Operates kitchen equipment, works tray line, stocks supplies and other related tasks. Works under minimal supervision and acts as a resource to others in the department. Works in a professional, efficient manner to meet the needs of the patients and customers.
Practices safe food handling by following procedures: including checking and documenting temperatures, storing food correctly (rotate, cover, label and date), and avoiding cross contamination (hand washing, wearing gloves, and sanitizing items, counters and equipment between uses). Maintains the FIFO rule (first in, first out) to ensure proper rotation of food.
Uses established sanitation and cleaning procedures (including appropriate chemical use and protective equipment) for ware washing.
Maintains work areas and equipment and follows established cleaning schedules.
Prepares and handles foods in a way that maintains quality of taste and appearance.
Ability to garnish appropriately and make decisions ensuring the use of foods that meet or exceed quality standards.
Helps to maintain a safe working environment by following all safety procedures. Takes responsibility for reporting and helping to resolve unsafe conditions in the department.
Operates food service equipment according to manufacturer's guidelines and department procedures. Requests repairs or replacements as necessary.
Demonstrates basic understanding of normal and therapeutic nutrition by assembling trays accurately and neatly according to patient menu and diet guidelines.
Restocks work areas thoroughly and in a timely and efficient manner.
(SRMH Sotoyome Kitchen) Driving and transportation of food to Sotoyome Kitchen for patients at SRMH Sotoyome Hospital, ensuring that food arrives on time and quality of food is maintained during transportation. Responsible for visiting patients to obtain food preferences and assisting patients with food selection as needed.
(Cafeteria Staff) When working in the cafeteria, operates cash register and handles cash accurately, provides good customer service and markets products effectively by maintaining service area in a visually appealing manner.
(PVH) Responsible for visiting patients to obtain food preferences and assisting patients with menu selection as needed.
• Efficient, organized and has the ability to prioritize.
• Knowledge of food safety regulations and techniques.
• Ability to read and write English
Education: High school education or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Previous 1 year food service experience within the past 3 years.
Hospital or healthcare facility experience is preferred.
Training: On the job training provided
• Driver’s License
• ServSafe or other food safety/sanitation certification is preferred.
