Job Purpose:

To perform a variety of data input tasks requiring independent judgment, skills while working under general supervision of the Materials Manager or Production Supervisor. Supports production and/or specific areas of the facility by pulling document material, stocking, loading, kitting, cycle count and delivering to the proper workstation. The Material Handler must be capable of supporting all areas within the facility.

Education / Training:

• Entry Level Positions require a high school education or equivalent is required. On the job training is available to otherwise qualified candidates;

• Skill Level II – 2-5 years of experience, GED, or vocational / technical training, and/or Technical Certification.

Materials Coordinator - 2nd Shift

Key Job Elements:

• Receive, identify, and unload materials/parts and store in inventory;

• Identifies, draws from inventory, and transports material, parts and equipment associated with the assembly of locomotives to and from assembly areas, machines, loading docks and other areas;

• Familiarizes self with different work areas to assure prompt delivery and adequate supply of required items;

• Ability to clearly communicate and document the processing of incoming and outgoing;

• Operate industrial forklift, pallet jack, mobile equipment and/or overhead cranes to perform material handling assignments;

• Must be able to deliver urgent items to the production floor consistently, accurately, and safely;

• Able to clearly communicate the tracking of incoming parts and relay this to management quickly, consistently, and accurately;

• Follow verbal or written work instructions, standards and or QWI’s consistently, accurately, and safely. Determines method of shipment and prepares bills, invoices and other shipping documents;

• Receives merchandise - checks and signs delivery slips, and assists with unloading as necessary;

• Inspects and verifies incoming goods against invoices or other documents, records shortages and rejects damaged goods;

• Accepts or returns merchandise according to established company procedures. Calculates prices according to guidelines, and affixes bar codes, prices, and security tags as necessary;

• Organizes distribution and shipping of merchandise. Makes necessary verifications against documents, unpacks and routes goods to appropriate storage areas. Handles customer pick-ups;

• May operate forklift, hand truck or other equipment to load, unload, transport and store goods;

• Maintains internal record-keeping systems;

• Contacts resource people for various information. Contacts transport companies and suppliers in order to expedite, trace or return merchandise that does not conform to specifications or purchase orders;

• Assembles containers and crates, packs goods to be shipped and prepares identifying information and shipping instructions;

• Knows safe storage and handling procedures for various chemicals and materials;

• Knows proper shipping procedures for transportation of dangerous goods;

• Takes inventory, maintains storage area, organizes and places stock on shelves. Ensures area is secure at all times.

Qualifications and Experience:

Preferred Skills

• Basic PC knowledge for data entry;

• Basic mathematical skills and proficiency in reading a tape measure;

• Self-starter, work with little or no supervision, work in a fast-paced environment, adjust to quick changing requirements and prioritize consistently, accurately, and safely;

• Forklift, pallet jack, mobile equipment, dollies and/or crane experience;

• Problem solving ability and ability to apply reasoning and common sense for appropriate resolutions.

Essential and Physical Activities Functions

• Strength – Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs, push and pull up to 75lb;

• Motion – Constant walking Frequent and sustained bending, crouching, stopping, kneeing, squatting and overhead reaching and climbing ladders;

• Vision/Hearing Requirements – Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and hear audible alarms;

• Work Environment – Works on varied surfaces, concrete floors, and gravel, rail car and locomotive floors. Works at varied heights from floor level to tops of locomotives. Work in confined spaces. Non temperature control environment, all weather conditions with high noise and high dust levels;

• Emotional Demands – Due to the working environment, noise, dust, personal protective equipment, employee must be comfortable working alone;

• Safety – Safety Sensitive positions because it works in and around active tracks, rail cars, locomotives, and other moving equipment. Employee must abide by all safety protocols, health/medical screenings and utilize all required PPE. Included but not limited to metatarsal boots, safety glasses, gloves, respirators, aprons, ear protection, etc.
