Summary

The Senior Project Manager plans, budgets, and implements projects from beginning to end for the expansion of facilities and improvement of production lines. They will serve as a technical resource in support of the maintenance department and plant infrastructure to include: refrigeration, boiler, electrical, structural, roofs, fire suppression and fire alarms.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Safety – Manages all project sites and contractors by OSHA guidelines. Coordinates all activity at the job sites with local management and safety managers. Ensures that all contractors have a current signed, site specific, safety-package on file for the job site.

  • Maintains projects budgets and schedules under changing circumstances. Documents, justifies and approves all change orders.

  • Assists Director of Operations in developing both a short term and a long term capital budget.

  • Solicits three competitive bids received for goods and services. Ensures that the correct equipment is purchased for application. Ensures equipment meets performance specification. Makes sure that the contractors provide competitive bids for defined scope of work.

  • Provides a scope of work that clearly defines and documents all project expectations to prospective bidders. Provides and documents the resolution of all questions to all bidders.

  • Uses engineering expertise to identify, document and implement cost savings/profit-enhancing improvements that can be implemented on the local level with or (preferably) without the need for capital investment.

  • Trains project managers, project manager trainees, construction managers, construction superintendents, etc. in the proper project management techniques.

  • Occassionally will need to manage projects on weekend plan shutdowns.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Agricultural, Civil or Structural Engineering is preferred. In the absence of a degree, 10 plus years related work experience will be considered.

  • If degreed, must have 5 years of experience.

  • Technical expertise in construction, refrigeration, poultry processing equipment, project management, AutoCAD and equipment layout.

  • Microsoft Office and CAD skills are required. Must be able to travel to remote facilities, plants and/or other offices.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  • Position is active. On the floor activities such as troubleshooting and re-design of existing systems are routine.

  • May need to move equipment occasionally.

  • May need to access files, supplies and equipment.

  • Work activity is where the processing equipment is located.

  • Work environment includes, but is not limited to, a normal office environment and construction site as well as climate extremes found in a poultry processing operation, feed mill, hatchery and a waste water treatment facility.

  • Position requires an associate to have the ability to move throughout the complex and all facilities.

  • When in a plant environment: Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.

  • May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.

  • May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.

  • May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, processing facility.

  • Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company.

  • Must be able to work in confined and or permit required confined spaces and heights.

  • Must be able to work on and or around operating equipment.

  • Must be trained and use Lockout/Tagout
