Job Overview

The Supervisor, Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for the design, creation, and continuous improvement of the manufacturing processes within the PMO. This individual will demonstrate and provide technical expertise and guidance, typically across a field of specialty which may include Welding, Assembly, or Warehousing. They will also lead a team of approximately 5 people performing this work. In that capacity, they will create and implement new methods and technology to improve the processes and their control and they will coordinate the response to the organization by their team members. Create and maintain process documentation to facilitate a quality process. Establish manufacturing standards for each process. Plan for the implementation of the facilities, equipment, tools, and processes to effectively provide for the long, mid, and short-range plans of the PMO. Support the customer with a response to technical field issues. Performs all aspects of manufacturing engineering with knowledge, skill, and efficiency. Trains and supervises other manufacturing engineering staff. Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering support processes. Expert in most aspects of the department. Willing and capable of filling in for manager.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Create and continuously improve all manufacturing processes.

  • Create, and maintain all manufacturing process documentation, including part allocations in SAP.

  • Carefully specify all manufacturing process equipment and tools.

  • Supervise and train Mfg. Engineering staff in all of their capacities.

  • Create and maintain short, mid, and long-range planning of the manufacturing operation.

  • Initiate, create, and process engineering changes needed in the operation.

  • Make capital and expense purchases as needed.

  • Support the manufacturing operation to the best of your ability. Support the customer by communicating technical process information to KA service, distributors, and end-users.

  • Establish and maintain good global communication with the Komatsu world by interacting with our parent plants in Japan, and other overseas operations.

  • Warehouse Manf. Eng. & Admin - In the position of warehousing the other responsibilities will include Data reporting, Cycle counting, Parts return, and off-site shipments.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • BS Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or equivalent) is required.

  • Five (5) or more years of manufacturing experience is required along with a solid foundation of engineering principles. Experience with fabrication tooling, welding, assembly and machining processes is required.

  • A very high level of mechanical knowledge and experience will be necessary to design, improve, and relate to the manufacturing processes.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and positively within the Manufacturing Engineering team, the Komatsu leadership team, and to their corporate customers such as Engineering and Manufacturing. They must also work closely to support and educate the skilled tradespeople that perform the work they have engineered. Additionally, they must be able to articulate the reasons and economic benefits of continuous improvement to the

  • Proficiency in software applications including 3D CAD (Pro Engineer), SAP, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, as a minimum.

  • Proficiency in the use of applied engineering standards and practices. (Ability to understand and use Komatsu Engineering Standards)

  • Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (life, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.

  • Physical ability to work in a manufacturing environment, which has industrial equipment and associated personnel performing varied assembly work, some of which includes heavy/hot work (e.g. welding). This work will commonly require walking around equipment and the associated tooling within the manufacturing facility to review the assembly and manufacturing of heavy equipment and related processes.
