THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation (DOT) is in need of a Senior Civil Engineer in the Bureau of Construction and Materials, Materials Division to perform a variety of civil engineering duties, as well as technical, administrative and special assignments. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will conduct technical research, write specifications, and develop as well as modify departmental policies and procedures for better quality materials and construction processes, and develop solutions to design, construction, and maintenance problems associated with roadway materials, applications, or techniques. You will serve as assistant to the Chief Materials Engineer and perform analytical, developmental, and evaluative work in support of engineering functions for project development, innovation, delivery and construction quality assurance. Additionally, you will develop or update existing engineering, construction, and materials standards, specifications and publications, related to materials and innovation in project delivery and conduct presentations related to highway design, pavement design, innovation, materials, construction and maintenance.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or

  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or

  • Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
