THE POSITION

We are seeking an Attorney Examiner to support our commitment to fairness, impartiality, and efficiency. If you are ready for a rewarding challenge, join our team at the Bureau of Hearings and Appeals' (BHA) Central Region in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an Attorney Examiner, you will be responsible for the hearing and adjudication of formal appeals filed with BHA, as well as recipient and non-recipient appeals. You will be responsible for issuing subpoenas, orders, and rules to show cause, ruling on motions, and conduct pre-hearing conferences. Additionally, you will provide direction and guidance to Legal Assistants and mentor Administrative Law Judge staff.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.

  • Overtime as needed

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, after successfully completing a probationary period, based upon individual eligibility and the operational needs of the bureau. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.

  • Salary: The starting salary for employees new to the Commonwealth will be fixed at the minimum of the pay range

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of professional legal work which includes one year of trial work experience; and a Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school.

    Special Requirement:

  • All positions require possession of a certification of current license and active admission in good standing to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
