BAYADA Home Health Care Paralegal, In-House Litigation Support in Pennsauken, New Jersey

BAYADA Home Health Care, Inc, a non-profit company with its Global Support center located in Pennsauken, New Jersey has an immediate need for an on-site, full-time Paralegal with 10+ years’ experience managing professional, general and employment related litigation.

This Paralegal position will focus on management of high-risk professional and general liability adverse incidents and litigated claims. The role provides day-to-day support to the Director of Legal Services and some members of the legal services team. Legal work is primarily focused on professional and general healthcare liability claims, with a small caseload of employment related and miscellaneous matters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include, but are not limited to, organization and management of claims files including but not limited to:

  • Focus on risk management.

  • Understand unique nature of each claims facts, law, company philosophy and reputational risk to help set and guide defense strategy.

  • Locate, review, organize and develop digests of clinical records.

  • Conduct state specific and jury verdict research related to each claim to support.

  • Set accurate case reserves.

  • Review and assisting with response to pleadings, discovery, motions, releases, et al.

  • Researching potential expert witnesses; reviewing CVs, IDEX and prior testimony reports;

  • Interact with plaintiff’s counsel, defense counsel, employees/witnesses,

  • Support in preparation for mediation, deposition and trial.

  • Use of litigation case management software and other tools to ensure accurate case file notes and documents are maintained.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least Ten (10) years hands on file management experience in a law firm or in house health care environment focused on professional, general liability and employment matters.

  • Paralegal Certification

  • Must thrive in a fast paced, high-volume environment with the ability to shift priorities.

  • Professional dedication to and love of supporting a non-profit health care organization and its employees in defense of claims.

  • Organizational skills and ability to prioritize work.

  • Understanding of clinical and legal terminology with ability to apply in common sense fashion to each case unique facts.

  • Strong research and analytical skills for identifying issues and the ability to “think outside the box.”

  • Ability to set strategy to assist the company in prompt and efficient resolution of claims.

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills to interact with all levels of employees and external counsel.

  • Mastery of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook programs, along with matter management software
