Description
$17/hr. to $17.50/hr. and a Free YMCA Membership
Under the direction of the Camp Director, the Camp Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for summer camp specialty programming, family events, and group/event activities. The position is responsible for demonstrating YMCA leadership competencies to ensure the mission, purpose, image and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester are conveyed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Coordinate all preparation and daily activities for summer camp specialty programming and all family events.
• Oversee and inspect weekly summer specialty camp curriculum.
• Responsible for assisting in hiring, training, supervising, and scheduling staff for all programs.
• Ensure a safe and fun environment for all participants.
• Be on site during daily camp hours of supervision.
• Keep accurate, detailed records of incident reports and other necessary documentation as required
• Familiar with and carries out emergency procedures, building rules and regulations.
• Assist with Annual Campaign planning and activities during camp season.
• Attend all required meetings and training.
• All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Must be at least 21 years old or older.
Must have an interest, knowledge and skills in adventure programming outdoor education, environmental education, nature and outdoor living skills.
Minimum three years’ experience.
Must have the ability to teach and motivate participants of every age and interest.
Should have a general understanding of YMCA and the goals and objectives of YMCA camping.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be team oriented and able to work independently in a fast paced environment and in all-weather elements.
Must possess values consistent with the mission of the YMCA.
Must have CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and transport equipment from one location to another.
Ability to visibly observe children. • Ability to hear distress signals even when distracted by noise and activity.
Ability to stand and move around camp for an extended period of time.
Ability to demonstrate and lead activities.
Ability to work in a variety of environments, specifically those subject to extreme heat and humidity.
Salary Description
$17 to $17.50 per hour
