Eaton Corporation Global Embedded Software Engineering Leader in Peachtree City, Georgia

Eaton’s Critical Power Solutions (CPS) Division is looking for a Global Embedded Software Engineering Leader. The preferred location for this position is Raleigh, NC but other major Eaton locations may be considered on a case by case basis, specifically Moon Township, PA, Peachtree City, GA, and Charlotte, NC. Relocation assistance is available to Raleigh, NC only. If based in Raleigh, travel (including global travel) is expected to be around 25%, up to 50% travel can be expected if based in other locations.

The Global Embedded Software Engineering Leader will develop and implement the Critical Power Solutions (CPS) organization’s Embedded Software strategy and provide overall direction and guidance for Embedded Software engineering initiatives across the Global Product Line organization. This individual will lead the Embedded Software development organization for Eaton’s Critical Power Solutions (CPS) Global Product Line (GPL), roughly a $1.5B business encompassing product lines ranging from Uninterruptible Power Systems, Energy Storage Systems, and Power Distribution equipment.

What you’ll do:

The individual will collaborate across the CPS organization to drive and deliver the following:

• Design and implementation of embedded control systems and software architectures, to include components and interfaces meeting all necessary CTQ metrics

• Design, documentation, and implementation of the external and internal APIs for components and assemblies to integrate with each other and with external systems

• Establish the architectural vision that guides the organization, serving as guiding principles across all CPS stakeholders and engineering teams involved in the development of controls and embedded systems, components, and interfaces, and other related solutions

• Lead, guide, and mentor a team of embedded software engineers

• Have overall responsibility for driving state of the art practices in Embedded Software development and testing

• Drive and deliver functional excellence and accountability individually and organizationally

• Leverage global and corporate resources by building high performance teams across the Embedded Software function, geographies, time zones, and cultures to deliver on key business commitments

• Lead the migration of development practices from the division’s classical core technologies and processes to advancement in controls, software, and power/digital electronics

This individual will collaborate closely with other engineering leaders and teams, the project management office, Centers of Excellence, and product managers to successfully execute and deliver the projects, programs and objectives of the organization. This position will provide the necessary leadership to achieve functional excellence, encourage collaboration, develop engineers, and drive accountability.

This role will also substantially focus on system and component functionality, performance, resilience, reuse, comprehensibility, scalability, licensability, deployability, and cybersecurity, while addressing technology constraints and tradeoffs. Additionally, this position will serve as a key liaison and communicator between the various organizational stakeholders across CPS Americas, EMEA, and APAC. As the global leader for Embedded Software, they will serve as the organizations’ champion for standardization and alignment of embedded software processes globally.

Qualifications:

Basic (required) qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field from an accredited institution

• Minimum 15 years of professional experience working on real-time embedded systems

• Minimum 10 years of experience leading engineering teams either as a technical lead, engineering manager, or a functional manager

Preferred qualifications:

• C++ development experience

• Experience working in an agile development environment

• Experience working with Linux based embedded systems

• Breadth of exposure across different embedded software development structures, including RTOS-based, Embedded Linux-based, Bare-metal, Digital Controls, FPGAs, etc.

Position Criteria:

• Strong understanding of automated testing and tools

• Strong understanding of software requirements development and analysis

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

• Able to identify, communicate and mitigate technical risks and issues

• Knowledge of modern cybersecurity standards and cybersecurity product development practices

• Experience applying modern, best-practice embedded software design principles, algorithms, data structures, and multithreading concepts.

• Experience with agile, scaled agile framework and team structures, and creating test strategies across unit and systems test structures, growing software test automation capabilities.

• Experience with model-based design and hardware in the loop (HIL) platforms and systems, including simulation and modeling.

• Experience with digital twins, simulation, and modeling.

• Knowledge of power electronics and control systems is a plus

The expected annual salary range for this role is $160499.97 - $235399.96 a year.
