Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)

The Steam Turbine Engineer (TE) will be a key player in supporting the inspection and maintenance of our steam turbine fleet, including but not limited to GE D11s, GE A10s, Siemens KNs, and SW BB35/65s. Emphasizing safety, integrity, and accountability, the TE will manage high-quality maintenance, precise outage planning, and risk management against the constraints of time, budget, and market demands. This role is crucial for developing and implementing efficient and effective maintenance strategies for the steam turbines, in line with our core values and expectations.

  • Verifying Capital Part Serial Numbers: Ensure accurate tracking, planning, and forecasting for capital parts and budgets by diligently verifying and documenting serial numbers.

  • Writing Outage Reports: Consistently produce comprehensive outage reports for every project, regardless of OEM presence, to maintain transparency and accountability.

  • Creating or Leading Shift Turnover Reports: Take the initiative in producing detailed shift turnover reports, particularly vital when the OEM is not the labor contractor, to ensure seamless transitions and continuity.

Job Responsibilities

  • Actively promote and lead by example in all aspects of safety, making it a priority in every task and decision.

  • Manage and support maintenance planning and execution for steam turbines, both remotely and on-site, with a strong emphasis on safety and operational excellence.

  • Supervise OEM and third-party vendors, ensuring adherence to safety, quality standards, and Calpine’s best interests while emphasizing accurate verification of capital part serial numbers.

  • Conduct thorough inspections and mechanical maintenance on steam turbines, employing meticulous attention to detail in evaluating condition and performance.

  • Evaluate vendor-supplied test and inspection data, leveraging this information to make informed decisions on maintenance strategies and repairs.

  • Offer maintenance and repair recommendations, planning, and scheduling outage scopes with a commitment to creating accurate and timely outage and shift turnover reports.

  • Liaise with vendors for quotes, selecting services for outage and maintenance scopes, with a focus on cost-effectiveness, quality, and accurate capital part management.

  • Guide technical teams in performing specialized repairs and maintenance on steam turbines, ensuring knowledge transfer and adherence to safety protocols.

  • Innovate and improve inspection, testing, and repair techniques for steam turbines, enhancing operational efficiency, reliability, and safety.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred; consideration given to other degrees based on demonstrated expertise.

  • Strong functional knowledge of steam turbine inspection, testing, maintenance practices, and safety standards.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a steam turbine maintenance role, with a preference for Siemens, GE, Alstom, Toshiba, and MHI steam turbine expertise.

  • Self-motivated, independent worker with excellent team collaboration skills.

  • Commitment to innovation, problem-solving, and continuous learning in line with our core values.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and detail-oriented skills.

  • Must pass drug screening.

Preferential Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience with steam turbine models and technologies.

  • Background in military, OEM, or Merchant Marine power plant maintenance, with a focus on gas turbines.

  • More than 7 years of industry experience, particularly in roles that align with our core values.
