Job Summary

The Critical Systems team is responsible for the design, operation, and maintenance of intricate electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems that support Head Ends and communication rooms. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including air cooling, power supply management, generator operation, UPS systems oversight, electrical distribution, fire detection/suppression systems maintenance, and control and monitoring system management. The Generator Technician will also be responsible for overseeing vendors and contractors involved in maintenance and repair activities, ensuring a secure and stable work environment for all critical technology and personnel. The primary goal is to ensure the uninterrupted operation of critical infrastructure for both daily use and emergency situations.

Responsibilities
  1. Operate, monitor, and maintain generators and ATS units, promptly addressing abnormal conditions.
  2. Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and test 5kw - 4000kw generator systems Support the startup, commissioning, and integration of new generators, ATS, synchronization gear, and associated equipment.
  3. Monitor and update the Building Maintenance System (BMS) for optimal system performance.
  4. Conduct weekly inspections of generator units, promptly identifying and addressing issues.
  5. Perform necessary repairs on generator units to maintain optimal functionality.
  6. Monitor fuel tanks to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
  7. Identify and respond to electrical issues effectively.
  8. Supervise and provide guidance to external vendors conducting maintenance and repairs, assessing their performance and contract execution.
  9. Ensure adherence to all regulatory plans, policies, standards, and procedures, maintaining facility compliance.
  10. Participate in after-hour emergency response standby duties.
  11. Contribute to special projects and fulfill other assigned duties as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree, trade school certification, or equivalent training in a related technical field.
  • 2 years' experience with extensive knowledge of different types of electrical networks
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude, with experience in mechanical and electrical fields, particularly with diesel generators
  • Willingness to participate in after-hours response standby.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
  • Possession of a valid and clean Driver's License.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in office software applications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety protocols and equipment usage to maintain a secure work environment, adhering to Company and OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Physical capability to occasionally climb, kneel, crouch, or crawl, as well as lift and/or move objects up to 70 pounds.
