Performs moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: maintenance contract and/or material and process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties for a General Transportation Tech II or III:Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards and comfort stations.Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush.Serves as the only maintenance contract inspector on a small project.Assists in traffic control, inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction project sites for compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, regulations and the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.Maintains construction project records and/or bridge inspection records; processes related paperwork; reviews files for compliance with the bridge inspection Manual of Procedures.Identifies, repairs, and installs signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs welding; and uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products.Inspects routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems.Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at point of supply to ensure construction materials meet Department specifications.Performs other job responsibilities as assignedAdditional duties for General Transportation Tech III include:Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications.May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications.Trains other employees
