This position works under the direct supervision of the executive housekeeper and is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of park facilities and taking inventory of linens and supplies. Main duties are cleaning lodge rooms and cabins after guests. Other job duties include dusting furniture and fixtures, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, buffing floors, emptying trash, and other duties as assigned. Applicant must be able to work a varied schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays. A criminal background check and a driver’s record check are required.

Summary

The Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism (ADPT) Housekeeper is responsible for general cleaning of ADPT facilities and operating laundry machines and training others in laundry operations at ADPT. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Empties waste baskets, dumps trash, and replaces trash bags. Dusts, polishes, and cleans furniture, fixtures and equipment located in facility private and public areas. Cleans walls, baseboards, windows, windowsills and window blinds or coverings. Sweeps, mops and buffs floors, vacuums and shampoos rugs; strips and waxes floors, as needed. Cleans bathroom fixtures and stocks bathroom with soap, toilet tissue, and paper towels. Cleans areas requiring special cleaning methods, by use of specific cleansers, sterilized equipment, and/or disposing of contaminated wastes. Strips and makes beds. Issues towels, bed linens, and other personal items to guests. Collects and sends dirty linens and towels to laundry. Loads soiled articles into washing machine, loads chemicals, sets controls, removes and transfers articles to dryer, sets controls, and removes articles when dry. Operates steam press to iron articles and fold articles for delivery. Sorts, counts, loads, and delivers finished items to user. May mend damaged articles by machine or by hand sewing. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques. Knowledge of cleaning equipment operation and maintenance. Ability to follow instructions and perform repetitive manual work. Ability to use cleansers and other agents to clean floors, equipment, fixtures and furniture. Ability to use housekeeping cleaning supplies and equipment. Ability to work independently without close supervision. Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions.
