Job Duties

Arranges for the efficient and orderly admission of patients, ensuring that all points of registration (Emergency Room, Outpatient Ambulatory, SDS, Behavioral Health & Admitting) are obtaining accurate patient information and that patients are made aware of hospital policies and procedures. The Patient Access Representative interacts with the hospital staff and patients to assure quality care of patients throughout their hospital stay. Establishing health insurance benefits, conditions and requirements by making phone inquiries, and by using eligibility systems and the internet.

Accepts reservations for hospital admission, clinic visits, SDS, ED and behavioral health services. Inputs information in EMR and completes appropriate forms.

Receives and records accurate demographic, financial and insurance information for all patients registered. Verifies all information and updates the patient’s information in the computer as necessary.

Verifies the accuracy of demographics and insurance information at the time of patient’s admission. Scans each required items (if available) such as ID/Insurance Cards/Consents and eligibility into the charting system.

Refers patients that are self-pay to the appropriate financial assistance representative to see if the individual qualifies either for Medicaid and/or Charity Care.

Obtains financial clearance and approval for any patient seeking ambulatory and/or outpatient psychiatric services.

Admits, discharges and transfers patients to and from units such as Emergency Room, Skilled Nursing Facility, Psychiatric Services, SDS, etc.

Collects payments for deposits to meet deductibles and co-insurance.

Notifies supervisor concerning admissions that do not meet the hospital financial policy.

Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.

Promote the mission, vision, and values of the hospital.

Greet all patients, families, and visitors with a positive attitude.

Performing other duties as assigned.

Education

High School Diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent.

2+ years work experience in customer service or related field.

Skills

Proficient knowledge of medical terminology, billing practices and coding.

Proficient computer skills.

Proficient with MS Office Suites.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Proficient mathematical skills.

Outstanding people skills.

Strong organizational skills.

Bi-lingual a plus in speaking Spanish and conversing in Spanish

Qualifications

Education

Required

  • Diploma or better in Diploma/GED

Experience

Required

  • 2 years: 2+ years work experience in customer service or related field.
