Job Summary

Battelle’s National Security Business Line is seeking a Senior Technician to support the technical team in the execution of Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) efforts in Civil Engineering Materials and processes. This position supports the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC) and is located on-site at Tyndall Air Force Base, near Panama City, FL .

The successful candidate will support efforts in existing and emerging technical areas related to U.S. Air Force Civil Engineering requirements. AFCEC conducts research and development that centers on the design, synthesis, characterization, and validation of civil engineering materials for various applications, including runway pavements, airfield damage repair, protective coatings, and firefighting chemistry. This work may involve inorganic, organic and analytical chemistry, material science, biological systems, material characterization, and additive manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Works on assignments that are moderately complex in nature where judgment is required in assessing problems and making recommendations to technical leads.

  • Performs non-routine analysis to verify the accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of project work. May assist in identifying ways to improve process efficiency without negatively impacting client project goals. May assist in the technical planning and has some discretion when making judgments and completing tasks. Is encouraged to make recommendations such as estimating time requirements for the completion of tasks and/or providing solutions to technical problems.

  • Assists in the interpretation of results and writing of small sections of technical reports.

  • Develop test plans and experimentation protocols and conduct technical projects.

  • Design, planning, and execution of experiments related to civil engineering materials that may include chemical analysis and synthesis, cementitious materials development and analysis, and similar projects.

  • Works under general supervision and instruction of more experienced staff. Reports observations/problems clearly and concisely, recognizing and highlighting specific deviations.

Key Qualifications

  • Associate degree in science or related field; 3 years of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.

  • May be expected to pursue various certifications or continuing educational units, as needed.

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform assignments that may not be standardized in nature.

  • Exhibits technical knowledge to perform moderately complex assignments.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding behind application by beginning to troubleshoot and interpret results.

  • Conducts specified non-routine analysis of data and prepares data for written reports.

  • Uses established outlines for documenting results for inclusion in technical reports.
