Day - 10 Hour (United States of America)

A Brief Overview

Under minimal supervision of the Donor Services Director, the Collections Resource Nurse has responsibility and accountability for serving as an education, technical, and clinical resource to the Collections staff. They will act as a clinical role model, demonstrate clinical reasoning, current clinical and technological skills for the blood collections and staff education, quality review and assessment, and shared governance of the blood collections operation. They will be an integral part of maintaining the quality standards of the department, supplementing the general training and on-going education of Collections staff, supporting Collections operations by filling the role of Charge Nurse and serve as an RN when needed, and support the on-going SOP development and implementation of the department.

What you will do

  • Quality:• Support the continuous quality of Collections operations by providing timely initiation, review and completion of quality documents.• Review, initiate, perform follow-up on PDIFs as needed.• Follow-up, and complete Event Discovery Reports (EDR), Donor Comments, and Donor Reaction Forms.• Review and print Drive Summary Report and complete appropriate follow-up.• Follow up on donor comments and donor reactions.

  • Training:• Serves as a training resource to supplement the Training Department activities such as conducting staff annual competencies, conducting charge nurse training, and educating staff on changing regulatory, health and disease processes.• Collaborates with the Training, Medical Services, and Collections leadership team to identify opportunities, and develop material to reinforce knowledge of Collections staff and Donor Services staff through training and education.• Collaborates with the Training Department to support the development, implementation, and on-going management of Collections mentorship program.

  • Collection Operations Support:• Manages time to maintain availability to support Collections operations by performing duties of whole blood and apheresis Collections staff, and/or Charge Nurse as needed.• Assist Charge Nurses in resolving any issues, or report to Manager/Supervisor for evaluation and resolution.• Serves as a technical and clinical knowledge base resource to support Collections supervisors.• Ability and authority to deactivate deferrals when requested.

  • Communication:• Attend and participate in required departmental and SBC meetings; ensure timely communication with Collections staff and other departments.• Attend and participate in meetings and collaborate with other departments to keep the collections staff informed of upcoming changes and improve staff communication processes between groups.• Provides feedback and participates in department SOP development, review, revision, and implementation process.• Communicates feedback/issues to Collections Manager and/or to the appropriate Collections and DS Supervisor for evaluation and resolution.• Collaborates with Collections leadership team to maintain Collections Visibility Wall.

  • Comply with governmental regulations and Stanford Health Care and Blood Center policies regarding health and safety. Observe and support good health and safety practices.

  • Strictly observe privacy and security related policies, procedures and practices to preserve the integrity and confidentiality of medical and other sensitive information pertaining to donors, patients, research subjects, and employees. Act as a responsible information steward and treats information as sensitive and confidential in accordance with federal and state laws and with professional ethics, accreditation standards and legal requirements. Do not disclose protected health information inappropriately.

  • May be required to enter areas where other individuals work with human blood; potential may exist for unanticipated exposure to bloodborne pathogens by splash or spill.

Education Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

Experience Qualifications

  • A minimum of 6 months as an SBC Blood Center Nurse I or equivalent experience at a Blood Center required.

  • Training experience desired.

  • Fluent and communicates effectively in oral and written English; articulates information clearly.

  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring qualities, organizational skills, critical thinking skills, and attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people, conduct work with civility in all interactions, and maintain appropriate professional relationships/boundaries with co-workers and customers.

  • Demonstrated strong customer service and interpersonal skills that include an empathetic approach to co-workers and customers.

  • Ability to calmly address donor and staff concerns, or operational problems effectively.

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure and

  • BLS - Basic Life Support and

  • CADL - California Drivers License - Valid And In State

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $51.15 - $67.78 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
