The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is currently seeking a full time Visual Field Technician to work in Palm Beach Gardens. The Visual Field Technician gathers data pertaining to the patient’s visual field and maintains an environment conducive to the delivery of efficient and high-quality eye care. The individual in this position performs diagnostic ophthalmic testing and assessment procedures, and provides medical treatment and services.

Determines the optical characteristics of spectacle lenses with the lensometer or autolensometer. Performs a variety of tests and procedures on patients of all ages, including confrontation fields, Goldmann visual fields, Humphrey visual fields, Amsler grid, insertion and removal of hard and soft contact lenses, administration of eye drops, keratometry, auto refraction, specialized visual fields, and tonometry. Measures the visual acuity of patients by looking at the projector chart, utilizing e-card or hand motion techniques and examining light perception, pinhole visual acuity, and near point card. Monitors and maintains the levels of minor equipment. Educates patients on testing procedure. Performs vital signs on patients having laser procedures. Monitors progress and facilitates the testing of patients undergoing diagnostic procedures in other areas or departments. Serves as a liaison to physicians, patients, and other departments. Makes suggestions to physicians and practice managers regarding possible improvements in practice. Handles medical emergencies in a timely and competent manner, always putting the patient’s safety and well-being first. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

• High School diploma or equivalent

• One year of relevant work experience in a medical setting
