National Park Service Maintenance Worker in Page, Arizona

Summary This position is located in Glen Canyon Recreation Area in the Facility Maintenance Division. Responsibilities Operates sewage pump truck to clean and maintain comfort station/micro flush toilets and septic tanks. Performs custodial duties of cleaning building, comfort station, empties trash and restocking comfort stations. Performs a full range of work involving the maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, and related fixtures and utilities and daily water and lift station rounds. Performs plumbing tasks such as replacing hose bibs, valves, nipples, unions and elbows, fixtures. Performs electrical tasks involving making repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating defective wiring and fixtures. Operates and performs operator maintenance on cars, trucks, and/or van and stake trucks to pick up supplies, and to transport materials to and from work sites while assisting on project work. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required by Entry on Duty. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You are required to obtain and maintain a current Wastewater Collection Operators Certificate within one year from Entry-On-Duty. You must be able to secure and maintain a valid Arizona Department of Health Services Level 1 Wastewater Collection Operators Certificate. Please indicate the level of certification you currently possess. You are required to obtain and maintain a current Wastewater Treatment Operators Certificate within one year from Entry-On-Duty. You must be able to secure and maintain a valid Arizona Department of Health Services Level 1 Wastewater Treatment Operators Certificate. Please indicate the level of certification you currently possess. You are required to obtain a Level 1 Water Distribution Certificate within two years of Entry on Duty. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Qualifications SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position operates and performs operator maintenance on cars, sewage pumper truck, and/or van and stake trucks. May also operate a dump truck and forklift. The existence of this position as motor vehicle operator requires a driver's license at the time of the appointment, and you must be able to maintain. If you do not have a valid driver's license or not currently in the process of obtaining a driver's license, you will not be eligible for this position. (SCREEN OUT)To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instructions If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. In preparing your application, describe in detail your experience in performing maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds fixtures and utilities, to include: (1) repairs and installation of utility systems, (2) maintains state water and wastewater licenses, (3) performs plumbing on water tanks, floats and potable water systems and related equipment such as mains, valves, storage tanks, (4) maintain comfort stations, micro flush toilets and septic tanks. Experience should be clearly described and documented in your resume. The qualifications reviewer will not assume performance of such duties by Job Titles alone. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions. Additional Information This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate. Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions. Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment, paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks, and biting insects. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are NOT suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval. Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
