National Park Service Maintenance Mechanic Leader in Page, Arizona

Summary This position is located at Glen Canyon Recreation Area in the Facility Maintenance Division. This position is concurrently advertised for status (Federal/Veteran/Other Eligible) eligibles under merit announcement number IM-1541-GLCA-25-12569723-ST. Responsibilities Works with supervisor to plan weekly work schedules and sequences of operations of the Downlake District. The position is a working leader and provides daily direction to at least three (3) workers to accomplish trades work on a regular and recurring basis. This position also performs non-supervisory work requiring the use of a variety of trade practices similar to those lead. Trades include: electrical, engineering equipment operator, and water treatment plant operations. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You are required to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License Class A within 180 days of Entry-On-Duty. You are required to obtain and maintain wastewater treatment plant certifications: Arizona State Level 1 Water Treatment, Arizona State Level 1 Water Distribution, and Arizona State Level 1 Wastewater Treatment Certification. You are required to obtain and maintain a Department of Interior Motorboat Operator Certification Course (DOIMOCC). You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime. You will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Qualifications SELECTIVE FACTOR: You must have valid driver's license at the time of applying; and you must be able to maintain that license as a condition of employment. (SCREEN-OUT) To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Lead Or Supervise (SCREEN-OUT) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. In preparing your application, describe in detail the experience and training which you have had that specifically prepared you for this job and to perform the duties of the following: possess journeyman knowledge, and have experience in providing daily direction to at least three (3) other workers regarding the following trades electrical, engineering equipment operator, and water treatment plant operations including performing the following duties at the most complex level: (1) repairs, and installation of utility systems; (2) maintaining state water and wastewater licenses; (3)plumbing on water tanks and floats, potable water systems and related equipment such as mains, valves, storage tanks; and (4) electrical wiring necessary to maintain existing single or three phase. Experience should be clearly described and documented in your resume. The qualifications reviewer will not assume performance of such duties by Job Titles alone. Additional Information This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate. Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50-100 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions. This requires standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and cramped positions. Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment, paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks, and biting insects. The incumbent's clothing may become soiled from· grease, dust, and chemicals. There is frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts, bruises, falling, bums, broken bones and chemical vapors, constant noise, rotating machinery, dust, grease, chemicals, oil, fumes and infectious blood pathogens when working in or about systems. Incumbent may also be exposed to energized circuits, electrical shock, burns, electrical rotary devices, cuts and abrasions from the use of tools and equipment and bums from chemicals. The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are NOT suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
