Xylem Electrical Engineer - Hybrid - Paddock Wood in Paddock Wood, United Kingdom

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our team within the disinfection division, based in Paddock Wood. As an Electrical Engineer you will be responsible for the design deliverables of bespoke customer facing projects, as well as supporting standard products across ATG and Wallace & Tiernan product lines. The technologies you will be designing and supporting will be based upon our UV, chlorine gas feed, OSEC, analyser and controller products.

A background in project-based work, and control panel design is essential. Experience working in the water industry, or similar process industry experience is also required.

The type of person we are looking for will have a proactive attitude, be self-motivated, confident and display resilience during challenging situations. You will have excellent communication skills and will be expected to liaise with a variety of stakeholders at many levels with corresponding businesses.

Summary of role:

  • Providing electrical designs, knowledge and support to the project management and production teams.

  • Providing electrical designs, knowledge and support for our ATG UV products, Wallace & Tiernan chlorine gas feed, OSEC, analysers and controller products.

  • Preparing electrical control panel layout designs, manufacturing drawings, schematics, cable schedules, BOM’s

  • Producing project required documentation (datasheets, manuals, FDS, control philosophies, FAT procedures etc.)

  • Working with, and maintaining, good communication with other departments (projects, production, sales)

  • Liaising with suppliers and customers

  • Working to project budgets to ensure cost-effective solutions

  • Carrying out/supporting FAT’s and control system function testing

  • Responsible for reviewing, digesting and technical translation of customer specific requirements from contract documentation.

  • Execution of ECN’s for projects and standard products.

Key responsibilities:

  • To evaluate and review client particular specifications, current Industry Standards, together with National Regulations to ensure compliant Xylem/EWT designs and produce technical clarifications and deviations to these specifications relevant to Xylem/EWT product designs. To assist in the development of contract scope of supply technical details during proposals documentation development.

  • Responsible for completing/reviewing technical calculations, defining and reviewing P&ID’s, instrument data sheets and electrical equipment specifications, selection and detailing instrument and cable schedules and technical appraisals of supplier proposals and designs.

  • Responsible for the preparation of all project related electrical documentation such as, but not limited to control philosophies, IO lists, cause and effect charts, electrical layout drawings including cable tray requirement details, cable routing designs, schematics etc.

  • Assisting in the preparation and review of proposal scope documents, producing technical recommendation reports, reviewing sales proposal client feedback and engaging with clients and sub-contractors during pre-contract and post contract discussions.

  • Preparing of control philosophies and functional design specifications to ensure that relevant design information is coordinated to all disciplines and that process control aspects are included where required. Compilation of specification sheets for the selected equipment.

  • Assist in resolving design issues during manufacture, installation, commissioning, and operation of Xylem/EWT products and systems, and liaise with customers with respect to legacy design issues.

  • To comply with, support and develop the Company Quality Assurance System – BS EN:ISO 9001:2015

  • To take due account of the responsibilities for the designer under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations in eliminating hazards and mitigating risks in all Xylem/EWT product and system design work.

  • To support and assist others in the implementation of company quality Q.A procedures with regards to engineering design document control procedures and assist in the maintenance of the document control system.

  • Eliminate hazards and mitigate risks in all Xylem/EWT products and system design by adopting good engineering practices in accordance with human factors engineering and ergonomic principles.

  • Maintain an up-to-date awareness and knowledge of various water treatment processes, plant and equipment types and associated suppliers that may be associated to or influence the design of Xylem/EWT products or systems.

Knowledge/Skills required

  • An Electrical engineering/design qualification at Degree level or equivalent.

  • HND or Degree is desirable.

  • Ability to interpret a wide variety of technical instructions which may be presented in diagrammatic form and deal with technically factual information as well as information which is open to interpretation

  • Good problem-solving ability and possess a creative approach for new ideas

  • Knowledge and experience of ATEX/IEC Ex, HAZOP

  • Experience of water industry specifications e.g. WIMES

  • A good level of computer literacy. Must have strong working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD

  • A good understanding of manufacturing and production methods and processes

  • Must have good literacy and numeracy skills to allow generation of documentation and interpretation of engineering data.

  • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail

  • Good team-working skills and attitude
