What Will You Do?                                                                                                                                     

The Plant Controller plays a significant role in managing the ERP system at the plant, producing accurate job cost reports and collaborating on inventory management.  The role requires experience in cost accounting and heavy collaboration with operations people to collect data, ensure the ERP is the “source of truth” and produce reports/analyses.  This person is also responsible for managing inventory and work-in-process (WIP) balances per GAAP standards.   

Note: This is an on-site role requiring presence 5-days per week in Owatonna. 

Duties Include:

 

  • Cost Accounting & Job Cost : Capture all transactions and report on results with respect to production of the modules, i.e. from planning to start to finish.

  • Data Collection : Ensure transactions are captured in the ERP system for material purchases, material receiving, inventory issuances, labor costs, sub-contractor costs, overhead, shipping of module and overall job completion.

  • Job Cost Reporting : Produce accurate and timely reports throughout the entire modular production process. Track and report on actuals to original budget, re-forecasts, change orders, profitability and variances.  Produce ad-hoc reports as required by the operations team.

  • Account Analysis :  Oversee and analyze account transactions for trends on revenue, materials, labor and overall production. Metrics include cost, schedule and quality.

  • KPIs: Facilitate the design, implementation and execution of Key Performance Metrics (KPI) related to on-going production of the modules.  Collaborate with operations team on relevant metrics and produce results on weekly basis.

  • Financial Reporting Accounts – Coordinate with corporate office to reconcile inventory balances and WIP balance(s) for jobs in production. Also, assist corporate office with budgets, reports, audits, taxes, etc. as needed.  

     

  • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP): Champion of EPICOR and ensure it as the “single source of truth” for the entire company.  

  • Leverage ERP system for all reporting matters.  Collaborate with operations teams and EPICOR consultant to design, test and roll out new reports, dashboards, processes and activity queries.  Minimize the use of outputs to excel for reporting.

  • Collaborate with EPICOR consultant, managers and users to develop processes, work flows and reporting for various ERP modules (financial, project/job management, material management, etc.)

  • Train operations team on EPICOR in conjunction to Rise’s workflows, procedures and goals.

  • Perform maintenance regarding site information, permissions, settings and data fields, as required. Also maintain data in modules (users, customers, inventory, job costing, data, etc.)

  • Achieve (eventually) status as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for EPICOR at Rise.

     

  • Inventory Management: Coordinate and oversee inventory to reconcile physical inventory to the balance in EPICOR.

  • Ensure operations team is following processes to record daily transactions including receipt of materials, issuance of materials to proper job(s), and write-off of obsolete/damaged materials.

  • Conduct periodic physical inventory counts to reconcile EPICOR balance.

  • At month end, report balance to corporate office to ensure balance is on general ledger is accurate.  Comply with GAAP standards.

     

  • Process Enforcement & Improvement: Ensure operations team follow processes in order to collect accurate data in EPICOR for reporting purposes.

  • Train operations team on inputting data into EPICOR on a daily basis.  Coach the “No short-cut” mentality of collecting and inputting data.   

  • Monitor and modify plant processes, as necessary, to ensure reporting integrity, safeguard company assets, and identify risks

  • Collaborate with all departments to incorporate best practices, align/improve processes and integrate these with Epicor

  • Establish and enforce financial policies and controls, esp. for inventory and job cost/WIP balances.

  • Enforce security policies to safeguard operations and maintain confidentiality of proprietary information.

     

  • Other Job Duties :

  • Develop relationships with Rise operations team to improve customer service, efficiencies and profitability of projects.

  • In the future, manage and mentor cost accounting team members at the plant.  Always foster a collaborative environment with all team members.

  • Special Projects: As necessary, execute special projects to improve efficiency, streamline processes and implement new technologies.

    The Right Candidate Has the Following:

     

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing industry is mandatory

  • 3+ years as controller and/or supervising cost accountant is mandatory

  • Experience with inventory management is highly preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or relevant field is mandatory

  • CMA and/or CPA preferred

  • ERP experience, especially with Epicor Kinetic or 10.2

  • Proficient with Excel, Outlook and Teams

  • Effective communication skills – written and verbal

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Positive attitude

  • Collaboration skills, esp. with operations team in fast paced environment

  • Excellent organization skills

  • Process improvement skills

  • Flexible on job responsibilities

    Salary Range

  • $110K to $120K
