Job Summary and Qualifications

The Manger of Medical Staff Services (MSS) assists the Market Director Medical Staff Services with implementation of and compliance with credentialing initiatives/processes. The incumbent is expected to maintain a working knowledge of applicable HCA Healthcare and Parallon Credentialing Processing Center (CPC) policies, accreditation standards and regulations associated with medical staff services, and play a key role in the integration of HCA Clinical Strategies and HCA systems. Some key job responsibilities:

  • Develop facility credentialing policies in accordance with accreditation/regulatory standards, HCA Healthcare policies, and medical staff bylaws.

  • Coordinate the work in matters related to practitioner health and professional conduct, and support functions for continued monitoring.

  • Maintain the official emergency call schedule and records for call compensation payments.

  • Manage correspondence between facility and individual medical staff members, not related to credentialing matters.

  • Provide support functions to medical staff officers in performance of their duties.

  • Collaborate with the Market Director in the development, maintenance, and distribution of medical staff governance documents (i.e. bylaws, rules & regulations, policies) and implementation of an annual review process.

  • Facilitate orientation for new medical staff members (and in partnership with other key stakeholders to include Director of Clinical Informatics (DCI) and IT&S personnel.

  • Collaborate with the Market Director to facilitate orientation for new officers, committee members and governing body.

  • Provide education to administrators and department directors regarding CPC operations and MSSD operations, privileging (including temporary and disaster privileging), and non-privileged practitioner credentialing.

  • Serve as the facility’s subject matter expert regarding relevant accreditation and regulatory requirements related to the medical staff.

  • Notify the CPC, Division and corporate teams of any upcoming or ongoing surveys relative to credentialing, privileging and PPE/peer review activities and functions.

  • Coordinate accreditation, regulatory, and any internal surveys relative to credentialing, privileging and PPE/peer review activities and functions.

  • Respond to any reviews of accreditation and regulatory compliance citations or deficiencies by developing and implementing corrective action plans.

  • Collaborate and coordinate with Market Director, on the review of eligibility criteria for each clinical privilege or grouping of clinical privileges that require the same qualifications and competencies.

  • Facilitate any required regulatory agency reporting of adverse actions taken against a practitioner’s medical staff membership or clinical privileges, as directed by facility leaders.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical staff services science, business, OR related field of study or an equivalent combination of training and experience required.

  • Certified Professional Medical Services Management and/or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years comprehensive credentialing experience in an acute care hospital or Credentialing Verification Organization (CVO) setting. Minimum of 1 year supervisory/management experience.
