Temporary position will be required to work overtime hours to complete assignments and/or projects. May require flexible work schedule.
SUMMARY
Lead carpenters must be able to lead a crew of 1 to 3 people. And on occasions work independently, if needed. Preferably remote Alaskan experiences. To perform a job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a professional timely manner, and always work to the best of their ability.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accurately study and plan individual job sites from take-off construction material as necessary to facilitate the efficient progression of work on the job.
- Estimate amount of work and time required for projects.
- Build foundations and leveling buildings.
- Responsible for all phases of residential remote construction. Including installation of windows, doors, insulation, sealing, flooring, siding and some roof work. May require laying out and building stairs.
- Finish carpentry. Setting cabinets and counter tops. General understanding of electrical and plumbing.
- Work in extreme weather conditions at times, while understanding construction logistics in Rural Alaska.
- Prepare project labor coding on individual timecards.
- Interact with the general public maintaining a professional attitude and working relationship.
- Initial travel to and from jobsite on Afognak Island will be by air or water for this project.
- Constructs and installs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools, and conforming to local building codes.
- Repairs structural woodwork and equipment, such as counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, and trim.
- Must use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Follow safety rules, regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.
- Safely use of hand tools, machines, and power tools.
- Other duties and projects as assigned
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Job Requirements
- Supervisory Experience - minimum of 4 years of construction supervisory experience.
- Proficiency with residential construction.
- Experience with all phases of residential remote construction.
- Minimum four (4) years' experience working in a carpenter position.
- Must have experience in and knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- General understanding of electrical and plumbing.
- Experience with building foundations and leveling buildings.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE and SKILLS
- Apprenticeship trade in construction or maintenance is strongly preferred.
- Remote Alaskan work experience
EDUCATION
High School diploma or GED.
TRAVEL
May travel by jet, small plane, or boat. Also, will travel on log roads, consisting of occasional dusty road conditions.
DRIVING REQUIREMENTS
Must have or be able to attain a valid state driver's license and be insurable on the company's automobile insurance policy.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead a crew of 1 to 3 people
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequently use hands/fingers, talking, hearing and seeing up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to continuously walk or stand for extended periods of time. Ability to kneel, bend, squat, twist at the waist, reach at, above and below shoulder height, climb stairs and frequently push, pull, carry, and lift objects weighing of up to 75 lbs.
