Job Description:
Ready to put your expertise to work on marquee transportation projects that will move the needle towards transportation systems that are sustainable, efficient, equitable, and inclusive? Parsons is now hiring a Mobility Planner to help support transportation projects in Eastern Ontario and the Atlantic Provinces. We are looking for those with a passion for the study, planning, and design of infrastructure such as complete streets, pathways, cycling facilities, transit priority and rapid transit facilities, and associated area-wide networks, programs, and plans.
Parsons is looking for more than one person to add to our team. We are open to customizing positions for a broad range of seniority, ranging from junior/intermediate staff, to seasoned senior professionals and industry leaders. We are also a flexible employer that is open to staff being mapped to our offices in Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, or Halifax, as well as the Greater Toronto Area.
Specific Responsibilities:
The candidate will carry out some, or all, of the following responsibilities, which will vary on a project-by-project basis:
Champion the completion of transportation designs, plans and policy studies, including the evaluation of alternative planning and engineering solutions to integrated mobility challenges/opportunities;
Contribute to the completion of larger transportation projects of varying complexity, including corridor studies, environmental assessments, master plans, area studies, etc.;
Be informed of emerging trends in transportation planning/engineering, including place-making, greening, accessibility, inclusion, and diversity;
Manage or coordinate the work of other disciplines and firms and work within a team environment;
Contribute to the preparation of technical report and proposals;
Prepare and deliver presentations to clients, stakeholders, and the community;
Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and municipal staff as required;
Prepare project planning schedules and budgets; and
Contribute to business development activities including networking and developing new client relationships.
Preferred Education & Experience:
4-year degree in Urban/Regional Planning or Civil Engineering, is required, with masters degrees and other studies and certifications appreciated;
Relevant work experience should be demonstrated, with the individual’s role in their project successes articulated;
Candidate should have a technical background in transportation planning, as well as a solid understanding of planning policy frameworks, best practice guidelines, planning and design techniques, evaluation methodologies, and performance measurement;
Registration as a Professional Planner or Professional Engineer, or evidence of pursuit of registration, is required.
Skills & Competencies:
Excellent written and oral communications skills;
Proficiency in English (oral and written) is required. Bilingual English/French is not required but is considered a strong asset;
Knowledge of transportation planning themes, practices, and guidelines; and
Creative, problem solver, and team player.
