COLSA Corporation Technical Writer in Orlando, Florida
Writes and updates material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance. related to Army regulations and polices.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential functions)
Write and edit various documents, including the construction of eXtensible Markup Language (XML) source files viewable in Interactive Authoring and Display Software (IADS), in accordance with AR 25-30.
Develop publications in support of equipment/systems utilized in tactical/non-tactical Army Communications systems, electronics intelligence and electronic warfare equipment, and their relationship among agency programs.
Identify impact of Government publications, such as publishing concepts, practices, and standards; and of recent advances in publishing technology sufficient to enable the employee to serve as a technical authority in these areas.
Knowledge of communications-electronic weapons systems/equipment planning and operations to assure the integration of extensive technical writings and the presentation of advanced communications-electronic theories and concepts.
Apply knowledge of engineering precedents along with specialized knowledge of the capabilities and characteristics of the communication-electronic weapons systems/equipment for which publications documents are assigned.
Researches and compiles technical data for use in documents or sections of documents such as manuals, procedures and specifications.*
Studies blueprints, flowcharts, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mock ups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail.*
Interviews personnel and reads material to become familiar with technologies and production methods.*
Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.*
Reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.*
May maintain records and files of work and revisions.
May review technical literature prepared by other staff members for content, coverage and clarity
May provide work leadership for lower level employees

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
Minimum of 8 years of related experience
Experience in technical writing, updating documents, and report writing
Background in DoD and military technical writing
Knowledge of communications-electronic weapons systems/equipment planning
DoD Secret Security clearance required; U.S. Citizenship required

Previous Army experience
Communications Planning and Evaluating Project Management Writing
