Description

General Summary:

Astronics Test Systems is seeking a skilled software engineer with a strong foundation in computer science principles and experience developing Windows or Linux kernel mode drivers. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of low-level system operations particularly in the realm of hardware-software interactions and optimization of real-time data streams.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and debug Windows and Linux kernel and user mode drivers.

  • Prepare and submit Windows drivers for certification.

  • Develop Windows and Linux services for service-oriented architectures.

  • Analyze, debug, and optimize complex real-time data streams.

  • Interface to peripherals via I2C, SPI, USB, and other buses and protocols.

  • Interface to equipment such as SpecAn, DSO, DMM, and switches.

  • Define and implement flexible, high-performance APIs.

  • Assess complex engineering problems from a software engineering perspective.

  • Analyze the pros and cons of multiple competing software solutions.

  • Evaluate emerging software technologies and their applicability to specific projects.

  • Express and capture designs with UML or other diagram types.

  • Contribute to DevSecOps efforts.

  • Assist with documentation efforts.

  • Participate in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions.

  • Work and communicate effectively in a cross-functional team environment.

  • Stay abreast of the latest software and technology trends.

Job Specifications

Qualifications:

  • Windows or Linux kernel mode driver experience.

  • Experience developing Windows and Linux service applications.

  • Experience designing and developing real-time streaming data flows.

  • Experience with multithreaded programming

  • Expertise with C and C++ In-depth knowledge of Windows and Linux APIs

  • Experience with C# and Python

  • Knowledge of UML and other diagramming techniques.

  • Familiarity with of service-oriented architectures

  • Knowledge of gRPC, REST, sockets, and inter-process communication

  • Experience designing and implementing flexible, high performance APIs

  • Experience taking a product from concept to production.

  • Experience interfacing with peripherals over I2C, SPI, or similar bus

  • Must be a US person.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience taking a Windows driver through the certification process.

  • Familiarity with digital signal processing algorithms

  • Experience with LabVIEW or MATLAB

  • Experience working with and interfacing to scientific instruments

  • Experience developing embedded systems

  • Experience with Rust

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science from four-year college is required.

  • 5+ years’ experience as a Software Engineer.
