Siemens Energy Resident Engineer (Guantanamo Bay) in Orlando, Florida

A Snapshot of Your Day

The Resident Engineer will assist with the successful implementation of the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) contract at the Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay. Your day would include providing an oversight and technical support role for the subcontracted O&M provider as well as collaborate with our customer’s on-site representatives!

The facility is a very exciting showcase of Siemens and Siemens Energy technologies, including a 20 MW combined cycle, solar fields, battery storage, gas reciprocating engines, diesel engines, LNG storage and gasification plant, as well as a hard-working grid to tie it all together!

Housing and a vehicle while on island, as well as airfare for periodic trips off the island for R&R are covered by Siemens Energy, Inc. There is also the potential of having your income excluded from federal income tax if IRS requirements are met.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Monitoring of O&M subcontractor for the facility, includes performing basic quality control function to ensure that Siemens Energy standards for safety and environmental compliance are met.

  • Provide technical support when operating issues or maintenance problems occur. Help to facilitate resolution applying personal knowledge as well as through coordination with the Siemens Energy organization.

  • Primary contact for communications and to attend meetings with O&M Sub-Contractor’s personnel, Siemens Energy O&M Backoffice Project Manager, Siemens Government Technologies on-site personnel, and U.S. Navy personnel (as requested).

  • Support the plant’s reporting processes to ensure that the contractual as well as internal reporting requirements are met.

  • Maintain the combustion turbines, the generators, and the steam turbine operating history and documentation relative to maintenance requirements. Assist in the planning and implementation of the scheduled outages.

  • Conduct maintenance planning meetings, pre-outage meetings, and post-outage meetings.

  • Coordinate Siemens Energy and contractor resources during outages.

  • Serve as the primary resource for configuration control of the equipment, applying the change management processes to keep the configuration up to date in Siemens Energy and the site’s records & systems.

  • Initiate and resolve warranty claims as necessary.

  • Responsible for oversight of O&M Contractor’s tracking of warehouse stock of supplied parts, delivery, and shipment of supplied parts.

  • Work with Siemens Energy purchasing, and manufacturing personnel as well as external suppliers as necessary to support the equipment’s parts needs for planned and unplanned work.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent experience.

  • 5 or more years of field experience in power plant operations and maintenance, technical and/or leadership roles.

  • Experience with T3000 control system preferred.

  • Must be a competent generalist, who is willing and able to be trained on the specific equipment. Given the remote nature of this project, the resident must be a motivated self-starter that is excited to tackle technical issues.

  • Willingness and ability to live and work at the Naval Station Guantanamo Bay for extended periods of time.

  • Must be fluent in English for verbal communications as well as reading and writing.
