The role you’ll contribute:
The Medical Laboratory Scientist LP is responsible for laboratory support procedures, including processing of all laboratory specimens in all areas of the clinical laboratory. Maintains accurate laboratory records. Follows laboratory policies and procedures; maintains quality control practices in the Laboratory. Acquires state licensure and/or national certification within 120 days of hire.

Participates in the evaluation of new laboratory techniques and procedures
Assists with data collection and special projects, as assigned
Assists in the documentation and submission of required laboratory, departmental, and staff statistics/reports
Performs assigned pre-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, which may include general and analytical equipment maintenance, function checks and documentation; specimen collection as needed; biological specimen processing; cleaning and disinfection of selected or assigned laboratory equipment and spaces; quality control and calibration performance; and other pre[1]analytical activities
Receives, prioritizes, and processes specimens in a timely manner to meet or exceed turnaround time standards.
Performs post-analytical non-result reporting activities related to laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures. Provides and acts on technical and support information related to the elements of laboratory testing for all age groups, neonatal through geriatric patients
Reads all Laboratory documents – SOPs and Forms for assigned area
Attends and completes all AdventHealth and Laboratory orientation requirements.
Starts initial training in area assigned using previously tested samples and LIS test site, including instrument operation and maintenance, QC and LIS training
Provides resolution to customer service issues within guidelines and supports education to clinical staff as appropriate or requested.
Recognizes that the attainment of knowledge is every employee's responsibility & accepts accountability for staying current on all written or electronic communication
Follows appropriate safety policies including the appropriate use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling. Demonstrates understanding and adheres to Chemical Hygiene plan and Infection Control policies. Employee job duties may include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment
Performs various support activities to facilitate operation of assigned department or work area
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Medical Laboratory Scientist
Medical Laboratory Technician
Associate 0 years’ experience
Eligible for state licensure as a Medical Laboratory Technologist or equivalent term for assigned work area based on the state regulatory agencies
Eligible for national certification as Medical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist or equivalent as required by respective state
Appropriate state licensure OR appropriate national certification if required to be obtained within 120 days of hire
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Technical skills and aptitudes related to the laboratory testing, procedures and processes performed in department or work area assigned
Ability to work independently and adapt to varying priorities, including directing workflow with minimal supervision
Ability to maintain equipment/records and perform quality assessment activities
Ability to operate computer systems in order to maintain patient documentation, testing records, and other related documents
Ability to educate and train new staff in medical laboratory settings
Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals
Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English
Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Associate degree in medical technology or related sciences with state licensure if required or appropriate national certification
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
- One year of Clinical Lab experience or Completion of a clinical internship in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent program
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Eligible for state licensure as a Medical Laboratory Technologist or equivalent term for assigned work area based on the state regulatory agencies
Eligible for national certification as Medical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist or equivalent as required by respective state
