WSP USA Application Development Specialists in Orlando, Florida

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for Application Development Specialists to join our Emergency Management and Resilience Team. Be involved with our Earth and Environment Team and a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

The Application Development Specialists will support the Florida Division of Emergency Management’s Elevate Florida Program in support of Hurricanes Debbie, Helene, Milton relief. The Elevate Florida Program is a residential mitigation program and will assist individual property owners to submit a top-quality application to FEMA related to storm damage.

Your Impact

  • Development of FEMA Swiftcurrent and HMGP housing applications for the Elevate Florida program.

  • Research, develop, and submit comprehensive funding applications tailored to the program.

  • Analyze program requirements and guidelines to ensure applications meet eligibility and compliance standards.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to collect and validate data required for funding applications, including damage assessments, cost estimates, and project scopes.

  • Use data analytics tools to support applications with evidence-based justifications.

  • Prepare high-quality application narratives, budgets, and supporting documents.

  • Ensure all submissions align with federal and state regulations, funding guidelines, and deadlines.

  • Work closely with internal teams, clients, and external agencies to gather necessary information and refine application strategies.

  • Monitor funding program updates and maintain knowledge of best practices in emergency management funding.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline application processes and improve success rates.

  • Provide QA/QC of applications to reduce or eliminate RFI from FDEM and FEMA.

  • Working knowledge and experience with program guidance of policy and procedures around FEMA HMA housing programs.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Policy or a related field.

  • Ability to successfully perform quality control/quality assurance on own work.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.

  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

  • Basic proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

  • Due to client requirements, US citizenship is required for all positions. As a contractor to FEMA, we require all selected candidates to undergo a criminal background investigation and fingerprint analysis. Only candidates who rate favorably may be selected for employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge and experience with program guidance of policy and procedures around FEMA hazard mitigation assistance programs.
