ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking a Trades Helper at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. (1.5 nautical miles off North Fork of Long Island & 6 nautical miles off coast of Old Saybrook, CT). Marine transportation furnished by Government provided ferry.

Summary:

Provide support to operations and maintenance functions at research facility. Work alongside higher-level tradesmen and/or independently on a variety of maintenance tasks; may include maintenance in electrical, mechanical or plumbing. Building maintenance and repair such as painting and simple repairs. Assist in performance of repairs and maintenance of facility equipment, motorized and non-motorized equipment and general facility maintenance; duties include, but are not limited to preventive maintenance tasks on mechanical and electrical equipment structures. Operate equipment as assigned and directed. Perform building maintenance inspection tours. Organize, assemble and deliver tools and supplies for maintenance tasks to work site.

Roles/Responsibilities:

• Routine tasks such as delivery of supplies, grounds keeping and painting.

• Assist in performance of road repair and maintenance.

• Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your whole body.

• Utilization of appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) such as safety shoes, hard hats, hearing, and eye protection is required.

• Ability to climb ladders, reach overhead and lift to 50lbs.

• Industrial work environment that may include loud noise, heat stress, work indoors and outdoors.

• Other duties as determined and assigned by department manager.

Requirements :

HS Diploma or GED. Preferred ability to work as a deck hand and obtain CDL. Operate forklifts, tractors, mowers, light and medium weight trucks. General experience in applicable crafts such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and painting. Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair & maintenance.
