STEM Specialist

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Utah County provides after school programs at Windsor Elementary to students from grades K to 6th grade. The after school programs are located on-site and run Monday-Friday after school during the school year. While at program, youth receive a blend of academic and enrichment activities. The AmeriCorps STEM Specialist will lead hands-on STEM education and assist with other activities at the Boys & Girls Club.

The individual selected for this position will serve as an AmeriCorps member. AmeriCorps is a national service opportunity, not just a regular job. JOB SUMMARY:

Part-time, Monday-Friday, 3:15pm -5:30pm, now-May

Plans, implements, supervises and evaluates activities provided within a specific program area, such as Education, Special Education, Social Recreation, Fine Arts, STEM, SEL and Physical Education. May be responsible for implementing prevention education in alignment with grant requirements.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Provide STEM education:

• Lead STEM lessons during the time allocated each week
• Maintain records of lesson plans and track data for the number of students served
• Complete weekly timesheets and a monthly report
• Evaluate progress of youth served using surveys & rubrics

Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:

• Promote and stimulate program participation;
• Provide guidance and role modeling to members;
• Ensure members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s).
• Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety, and development of members.

Program Development and Implementation

• Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for all members and visitors.
• Monitor and evaluate program services and activities.
• Oversee member safety, program quality, and appearance of the organization at all times.

Supervision

• Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly organization staff meetings.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• May participate in special programs and/or events.
• Participate in weekly staff meetings and all grant required training.
• Participate in MLK Day of Service and National AmeriCorps Service Week.

COMPENSATION:

This position will provide a living allowance of $4,500 paid over the term of service. The $4,500 stipend will be split up and paid on a bi-weekly (every two weeks) basis during your term of service. NOTE: You will not be paid hourly.

In addition, an Education Award of $1,565.08 will be awarded upon successful completion. The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award is a post-service benefit received by individuals who complete terms of national service in approved AmeriCorps programs. This award (similar to a Pell Grant) can be used to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions.

Between the living stipend (paid directly to you) and the Education Award (paid to your institution on your behalf), your potential total compensation is $6,065.08.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

• 18+ years of age.
• United States citizen or legal permanent resident.
• High school diplom a or GED.
• Meet the requirements set by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
• Experience in working with children.
• Knowledge of youth development.
• Motivated youth and manage behavior problems.
• Ability to work with the school and general public.
• Plan a d implement quality programs for youth.
• Organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
• CPR and First Aid Certifications may be required.
• Valid State Driver's License
• Preference will be given to individuals with educational or work experience related to science, technology, engineering, math, teaching, and/or education.
