Position Announcement

 

The Department of Technology Management and Mechatronics (www.uvu.edu/tm) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Mechatronics to begin January 2025.

 

The mechatronics faculty member develops and teaches undergraduate courses, such as automation controls, PLC, fluid power systems, motor controls, mechatronic systems, industrial networks, statics and material properties, industrial robots, microcontrollers, internet of things (IoT), electronics, and CNC machines, in the AAS and BS programs. The faculty member engages in scholarly activities and/or creative works that contribute to the mission of the university, department, and profession. In addition, the faculty member provides service at the department, college, and university levels.

The department will accept all qualified applications but is particularly interested in applicants with relevant credentials and experience in the mechatronic systems industry and teaching.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

• Graduation from an accredited institution with a Master's degree in Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engin eering, or a related field.

• Relevant industry experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Graduation from an accredited institution with a doctorate in Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

• Three years of relevant industry e perience.

• Experience with community college and university technology programs.

 

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

 

• Strong knowledge in the following areas: Rockwell or other PLC programming, motion controls, integrating DC and 3phase/1phase motors in automated systems.

• Advanced knowledge of undergraduate courses, such as automation controls, PLC, fluid power systems, motor controls, mechatronic systems, industrial networks, statics and material properties, industrial robots, microcontrollers, internet of things (IoT), electronics, and CNC machines, in the AAS and BS programs. The faculty member engages in scholarly activities and/or creative works that contribute to the mission of the university, department, and profession. In addition, the faculty member provides service at the department, college, and university levels.

• Solid fundamental knowledge in the areas of electronics and electrical systems that relate to Mechatronics.

• Strong background in at least three of the following areas: statics, dynamics, property and strength of materials, fluid power, thermodynamics, mechanical design elements and kinematics, electric machines and electric power, 2-D and 3-D CAD.

• Application of mathematics to troubleshooting and designing electrical and electronic systems.

• Application of theoretical mathematics in the automation and controls fields.

• Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques in upper and lower division courses. Knowledge of student management, motivation, evaluation; evaluation of (peer and self) instruction.

• Knowledge of program and curriculum development and evaluation.

• Knowledge of and expertise in current trends in education such as: engaged learning and service learning, learning technologies (e.g., digital technologies for classroom management and distance education), public presenting, and report and grant writing.

• Knowledge of online teaching environment, such as Canvas or other course management systems.

• Excellent organizational and time management skills

• Strong program coordination skills

• Effective verbal and written communication skills

• Effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex industrial systems.

• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.

• Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

• Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.

• Ability to work independently.

• Ability to design, build, and troubleshoot industrial electronic circuits.

• Ability to design and build new electronic labs.

• Ability to plan measurable objectives, prepare instructional materials, and follow an approved curriculum.

• Ability to assess student work and maintain and submit accurate and current plans, reports, and records involving student accountability, attendance, and performance.

• Ability to conduct scholarship/creative works and service and have teaching interests that align with the mechatronic s field.
