Scope of Position: Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices to effectively accomplish technical assignments and projects. Makes decisions independently based upon sound engineering and scientific methods. Actively participates within and beyond department boundaries to resolve important process and product issues. Enhance manufacturing capabilities through the implementation of new ideas and methods. Independently executes projects to fulfill department goals and objectives.

Project Responsibilities:

  • Leads, co-leads and supports attribute improvement projects, cost reduction projects or equipment upgrades

  • Act as new equipment process/equipment receiver, clearly defining equipment acceptance criteria and communicating associated timelines

  • Act with urgency to close out assigned projects by deadlines

  • Consistently and effectively communicates issues and concerns to stakeholders

  • Seeks out peers/shop personnel to gain high level of process understanding, listens to their concerns and seeks resolution rapidly within the functional area

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day problem-solving support to production and operations group

  • Identify process improvement and cost reduction projects based on rigorous analysis of process data

  • The engineer is expected to utilize the scientific method to develop, test, and prove hypotheses

  • Prepare cost justifications and capital requests for any new equipment purchases that may be required to achieve project goals

  • Interface with operators, team leaders and peers to develop and implement process, equipment, or safety improvements into manufacturing

  • Oversee all aspects of bringing new equipment into production, including preparation of financial justification, designing, specifying, purchasing, as well as tracking all spending related to the project

  • Develop maintenance and operator training documentation, conducting equipment qualification and initial training of production personnel, and making provisions for repair parts stocking levels

  • Formally document all aspects of the project

  • Provide processing support during product development, develop plans as to how the equipment/processes will be employed into production and ensure that the new technology is repeatable in a production environment prior to transfer Ensure all production and maintenance documentation is completed such as MI's, SOP's, PM's, and calibration

Hours of work/work schedule:

  • 40+ hours Monday – Friday; typically 8:00AM – 5:00PM

  • Support for production days as required

  • Occasional off-hour troubleshooting

Travel Requirements: Domestic Travel (<5%)

Required Education and Experience:

  • B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical or Plastics Engineering preferred)

  • 3 - 5 years related experience

Required Skills:

  • The ability to learn new technology and processes quickly

  • Familiarity with IT architecture and systems to access necessary process data

  • Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions

  • Ability to take routine data retrieval and analysis and develop a standard methodology

  • Strong working knowledge of statistical software packages

  • Basic knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC) methodology

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of plastic molding technologies

  • Experience programming PLCs in a manufacturing environment

The range for this position is $79,997.00 - $109,996.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
