Historic Onancock School Executive Director in Onancock, Virginia

  1. Board of Directors:
  • Report directly to Board of Directors
  • Collaborate with Board of Directors to create and implement Strategic Plan.
  • Provide support for board work, including annual update of board of directors book and other documents, as required.
  • Maintain compliance with 501(c)(3) status.
  • Maintain and keep open and timely communication with the Board of Directors.
  1. Finance:
  • Annually prepare, implement, monitor and report budget with the Treasurer.
  • Monitor operations to ensure compliance with legal, financial and civic responsibilities.
  • Maintain all financial records in compliance with 501(c)(3) and tax code requirements.
  • Manage fundraising and development committees.
  • Record, track and acknowledge membership and donations.
  • Grants: write/assist grant writer with writing proposals, oversee grant awards compliance to include monitoring, tracking and reporting.
  1. Operations:
  • Manage facility and grounds, to include maintenance and repairs, vendors.
  • Manage tenants, leases and collecting rent.
  • Work with volunteer coordinator to manage, recruit, and retain volunteers.
  • Coordinate special events rentals on premises to include receiving applications and deposits, assuring renters insurance and compliance with ABC regulations.
  1. Marketing and Fundraising:
  • Maintain HOS website to include photos and monthly calendar.
  • Design marketing/branding campaign that aligns with HOS mission.
  • Write monthly newsletter, post updates on social media, maintain calendar of events.
  • Write and distribute annual appeal letters for membership and donations.
  • Work with committees on fundraising and events to include planning, budgeting, volunteers and event follow up.
  1. Public Relations:
  • Represent HOS as leaseholder with town representatives.
  • Attend town council meetings.
  • Serve as an ambassador to cultivate and foster collaborations and partnerships in the community.
  • Greet HOS visitors, share history and recruit new members.
  1. Other responsibilities as assigned by Board of Directors.

The Executive Director job is a full-time (Monday-Friday, 9-5) position serving at the discretion of the Board of Directors. This position entails some week nights and some weekends. The compensation package is reviewed and revised annually following performance appraisal.
