Planate Management Group LLC US Tax Accountant in Olongapo City, Philippines

Planate Management Group (PMG) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and Orlando, Florida USA with technical support centers in South East Asia and East Africa, that provide program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

The Tax Analyst, under the Finance team, is responsible for completing tasks per the Tax Tasks Tracker and works with the Accounting team and external tax consultants to ensure tax filing and payments are prepared and submitted before deadline. This role will be coordinating and assisting the preparation of financial information and supporting backups for tax preparers. As a Tax Analyst, the individual will be doing tax research and registering for state accounts relating to payroll taxes. The Tax Analyst reports directly to the CFO and works under limited supervision to perform the following duties:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the Tax Tasks Tracker is updated with information regarding return filing deadline, supporting backup submission, tax return submission, payment made, and any new tax location and their accounts.

  • Coordinate with US tax preparer team to ensure US tax returns and payments are completed in a timely manner.

  • Coordinate with international tax team to ensure foreign tax returns and payments are completed in a timely manner.

  • Review and maintain documentary support, schedules and work papers related to tax returns.

  • Work with accounting team to ensure preliminary financials, depreciation/amortization schedule, revenue by location is submitted by deadline.

  • For non-income tax filings, prepare calculations, reporting, filing and payments.

  • Coordinate with Compliance to check that registrations and report filings are submitted according to the Tracker schedule.

  • Coordinate with HR to check that report filings and returns are submitted in according to the Tracker schedule.

  • Register new US state accounts for payroll unemployment insurance and withholding.

  • Resolve any roadblocks that would delay tax filings for payroll and income returns.

  • Submit new state account information to payroll provider along with any requirements for them to file on the company’s behalf.

  • Reconcile various general ledger tax accounts.

  • Provide tax instructions to AP and Payroll with respect to payments.

  • Consult with department heads and their staff to obtain information concerning reporting requirements, status of accounts, or specific statistical and accounting data.

  • Conduct state and local tax research and maintain state and local tax filing compliance.

  • Monitor the progress of engagements and communicate updates with senior management to resolve problems before they arise.

  • Corresponds with federal, state, and local tax authorities as needed.

  • Participate in meetings and report on problems and recommend improvements in methods to correct such problems.

  • Prepares special projects at requests of supervisor.

  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

  • Qualified candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting and have 5 plus years of tax relevant professional experience.

  • CPA designation is preferred.

  • Strong tax research skills.

  • Customer service orientation combined with creative problem-solving skills.

  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a team yet function well with independent responsibilities
