Overview

This Senior Systems Platform Architect role will be dedicated to Sustainable Technology efforts to improve the carbon efficiency of our distributed compute and storage infrastructure. Your expertise in platform architecture will accelerate our ability to engage internal customers to assess and execute on driving efficiency through physical to virtual migration, consolidation, decommissioning, and the application of power management settings. Additionally, you will support the evaluation of various hardware configurations to determine the most sustainable, carbon efficient platforms to meet business requirements.

Role

• Performs the programming and development processes for new and existing sustainable and efficient technologies for distributed compute & storage from conception to application, leading the most complex aspects

• Develops and implements efficiency & maintenance plans to address technical issues, and seeks opportunities for improvement and efficiency emissions reduction

• Leads complex initiatives and projects to develop and promote target architecture that supports and enables business strategies defined by Sustainable Technology program and related teams

• Supports holistic platform security posture which includes identifying risks, escalating potential concerns, and implementing both risk mitigation plans and control functions

• Establishes and improves policies, standards, guidelines, and design patterns, researching industry best practices across multiple technologies and business domains to support Net Zero by 2040 and other ESG goals

• Oversee progress of technical requirements for strategic initiatives related to efficiency, sustainability, and carbon reduction

• Coordinate implementation deliverables for strategic sustainability compliance objectives.

• Application Automation - Able to automate processes or service and deployment of applications across the organization including design, implement, test and improve on existing methods.

• Cloud Platforms - Has the ability to understand concepts and application design patterns to run in cloud, and maintains cloud computing services, ensuring reliability, security, and network optimization.

• Consulting & Strategic Judgement - Ability to identify, influence, and facilitate outcomes internally and externally by helping shape a viewpoint on how to respond to opportunities and facilitate execution of solution delivery, or engage relevant resources, or relationships for Mastercard

• Design Architecture - Able to design hardware and software components and their interfaces for improved design for energy and carbon efficiency. Applies understanding of systems integration for applications across networks, systems, and platforms.

• Enterprise Monitoring - Able to establish processes that allow for increased visibility and assessment of health, utilization, and efficiency across enterprise technology assets. Applies skills to design, automate, test and troubleshoot configurations to facilitate early warning of issues, failures and disruptions. Ability to use metrics to identify and execute against opportunities for increased platform energy and carbon efficiencies.

• Systems & Platform - Maintains platform systems through the implementation of appropriate solutions and maintenance of platforms through continuous improvement cycles

All About you

• Experience in assessing and actioning against opportunities to increase infrastructure efficiency

• Experience in implementing sustainability best practices in infrastructure

• Experience in implementing and improving the end-to-end decommissioning processes of physical servers

• Experience in assessing and implementing the consolidation of infrastructure for efficiency through technology refresh cycles

• Gains exposure to interfacing with business partners and explaining technical concepts

• Experience creating and delivering presentations for training events and/or business discussions

• Experience working with colleagues from other business units and markets

• Experience developing relationships and partnering with internal customers across development verticals to support system and platform sustainability initiatives

• Experience managing components of larger projects for a network initiative and developing an understanding of the importance of global consistency

• Experience resolving routine infrastructure architecture issues

• Demonstrates active engagement as a participant or in support of a global technology domain initiatives (e.g., providing input and contributing to discussions)

• Active member of business resource groups and global communities (e.g., Green Software Foundation, The Green Grid, iMasons Climate Accord, SustainableIT.org, Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Alliance, Tech Leadership Network)

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
