Sutter Health Speech Pathologist - Acute Rehab - Per Diem in Oakland, California

Position Overview:

Position Summary: The Speech Therapist provides diagnostic, therapeutic, and communication counseling services for individuals with all types of communicative disorders. Functions as a member of the Rehabilitation team. In addition to the minimum qualifications and essential job functions, each employee shall meet established age and skill specific competencies.

About the Alta Bates Summit Center Acute Rehabilitation Center: Our state-of-the art acute inpatient rehabilitation center specializes in treating stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurological disorders, complex orthopedic conditions and multiple traumas. We offer an intensive, structured and interdisciplinary team approach that incorporates physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, recreation therapy, neuropsychology and social work. Our program, accredited by The Joint Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), includes a 58-bed inpatient unit with 24-hour acute rehabilitation registered nursing care under the direction of skilled rehabilitation physicians. All patients in our 58-bed unit participate in therapy for a minimum of three hours each day, at least five days per week, depending on their individual goals

Education, Licensures and Certifications:

  • Master's degree in Speech Pathology required

  • Licensed Speech Pathologist - SP-L required

  • Basic Life Support Certification - HealthCare Provider - BLS-HCP required


  • Completion of Clinical Fellowship Year (9 months paid professional experience preferred)

  • Clinical practicum and clinical fellowship year must demonstrate knowledge and experience with a variety of pediatric and/or adult neurogenic disorders required

  • Outpatient or inpatient experience in the department's specialty preferred.
